Hey everyone,
Over the years of playing I have encountered several different views of how terrain is used in game. Since I am away at school I even managed a few games in Guelph and I noticed that people here use terrain differently from what I have seen before.
So far I have seen games where people are able to shoot through multiple layers of cover, games where even if your in cover and a small stone blocks yous barrel you cant shoot, and every incarnation of it in between. I checked the rule book and the main thing I found was that opponents should check with each other at the start of the game to decide on how they treat terrain but that can lead to conflict before the game even begins.
So I guess I am asking how do you treat it? No matter what the rules are I have seen that their are differences even if you show your opponent the rules.
I personally prefer everything that is not "fully intact" to be area terrain that can be shot through and shot out of in any position, and even shot through. Once something is declared intact then it becomes a line-of-sight type terrain.
So ya what is your opinion on how cover/ terrain should be treated in game?

99% of the time I use everything as 4+ area terrain, and the LOS rules (if you can see them you can shoot them, arms/guns/trophies dont count)

Hears what I try to do:
Ask my opponent if we can treat all terrain as area terrain before each game. Everything is move in move out, see in see out, shoot in shoot out. It speeds the games up, and makes it fairer.
As for how good a cover save is that’s clearly stated in the rules. For speeding the game up I usually just try to have 4+ forests and ruins.
Get a big pile of terrain bits then role of to see who places the first peace. That way you don’t have to get up and move your army on first turn and it’s fairer.
Declare impassable objects, but not having impassable objects on the board is just faster.
