As a new SM player, I just wanted to find out what the prevailing wisdom or generally accepted convention was regarding vehicle shooting, particularly when firing sponson mounted weapons.
For example, a landraider with sponson mounted lascannons. Since each sponson basically has a 180 degree firing lane down the side of the vehicle, can such a landraider fire both lascannons at one target, say a rhino that is sideways. I know if the rhino is facing the raider that it is not possible, but if a rhino is sideways the inner gun on each sponson can see the rhino. Personally I would say no both cannot shoot the rhino as both guns on each sponson should have to have a direct line to the target but was just wondering.
On another point, depending on how a raider is positioned, a rhino, for example, might be more than 50% obscured from sponson by the landraider's own hull. Would the rhino get a cover save if 50% obscured in such a situation?

If I remember right (and from checking the rulebook) the sponsons on a LR actually give you a little more than 180degrees same as the one's on a Predator. So normally, as long as the LR is facing it's target and isn't at extremely close range, both lascannons are able to shoot the target; even a rhino from the front.
As for question 2, I don't think that has ever come up since usually you are either facing your target head-on or most in most cases you just use machine spirit and shoot at another target.
But I would have to say that according to pg 58 miniRB you determine LoS for each weapon on the vehicle individually. So if that sponson can't see more than 50% of the target vehicle than it would count as obscured.
