Well here it is, our first annual club championships of 40k. As this is a work in progress in finalizing issues, I'll ensure that I only post in this main announcement and signup thread the things that I know to be true (and if they change I'll let you know ASAP!) The tournament is going to be held February 25th and February 26th at Kingston Gaming Nexus - 270 Bagot St. Kingston 9:30 AM is signup. Dice roll at 10 AM sharp. If you are late, you may forfeit your game to your opponent. Don't be "that guy". This will be a singles competition, six games over the course of the two days. There will be a comp system in place (which will be listed in the second post when finalized) that will apply to all lists. There will be a firm painting requirment MINIMUM of 50%of your army fully painted and based. Please note - after this year, it will be a very strict 100% painted policy - but it's the first year and almost xmas so I'm being nice Lists must be submitted ahead of time. Deadline for submitted lists is Friday February 10th. lists can be submitted via email to: smcleod11@cogeco.ca - please clearly indicate your name! All lists that are submitted by this deadline are given 6 bonus points for the tournament. (You have lots of time - don't submit 10 lists to me and expect me to keep track - send the one you're bringing for sure once it's finalized. ) Lists will be using the standard FOC and 1850 points. All armies must use their latest army codex (or in the case of sisters of battle, the white dwarf update) The cost for this tournament will be $40 due on the day of the tournament. This provides your entry to both days of the tourney and you will receive a t-shirt with your entry (on this signup please indicate the size of T-shirt that you require ordered) There will be trophies awarded as prizes for three awards:Best General - the person with the highest battle points over the tourney Best Overal - the person with the highest total scores (battle + all soft scores) over the tourney. Best Army - the person with the highest total in painting + any theme bonus points In addition to the t-shirts and the award trophies, there will also be prizes (but please note, winning ONLY gets you a trophy, there is NO product associated with any award). These prizes will all be given in a draw format - you will get 10 tickets with your entry... and you put tickets in whatever prize you'd like to win -> one winner per prize.

Scoring System
30 points sportsmanship (18% of your overall score)
over the six games there will be a maximum 5 points given each game for sportsmanship.
20 points comp (12% of your overall score)
system to follow below once finalized
78 points battle (your wins throughout the two days - max score is 10 + possible 3 bonus points for each game) - (46% of your overall score)
30 points painting (18% of your overall score)
(see following post for breakdown)
12 points for "bonus" points (6% of your overall score)
players have the option of giving ONE bonus point every game....
So you award it to your opponent if you had a great game, they were fun and you enjoyed yourself... basically a "fun point".... it's not huge, but a small bonus that rewards someone for making the game fun for everyone...
The other bonus points would be 6 points for submitting your army list by the required deadline:
Deadline for submission of army lists to me is February 10, 2012 (just send it to me in a PM or if you prefer email: smcleod11@cogeco.ca Make sure to include your name on it!)
Maximum possible score would be therefore 170
Comp Scoring
You start with 15 comp, taking the following subtractions:
Special characters or any character that unlocks FOC -1
any vehicle that has AV 13 or better on one of it's sides -1
each unit over the first with a 2+ save -1 (characters do not count for this restriction)
each unit/model outside of HQ that uses psychic powers: -1 (note this means if you take a tervigon as a troop choice this imposes a -1 because it is no longer an HQ!) - this does not include vehicles
dedicated transports starting with the fourth transport -1 each
each unit outside of the troops FOC which is repeated -1 for each repetition (ie: two units of hive guard = -1 comp... three units of hive guard = -2 comp)
Additions:
If you do not take max heavy support +1 (taking a heavy support option as a dedicated transport still counts as a heavy choice for this restriction only)
If you do not take max elite +1 (original slot is used for this)
If you do not take more than one HQ choice +1
No more than 10 S8 or higher weapons in your list +1
+1 If you have no more then 2 vehicles with AV 11 or more on any side -or- zero mech in your list

Painting / appearance will be worth 30 points in the tourney - yes, I've "borrowed" the system from Astro, as I feel it's an extremely comprehensive and fair system:
Appearance will be scored in categories as follows:
0-2 DISPLAY 0 – No addition to display. Plain or no movement tray/display stand. 1 – Basic scenic movement tray. Flocked, and some detail work or equivalent 2 – Very fine display system. Additional effort was made to enhance the army’s appearance.
0-5 CONVERSIONS 0 – No conversions or contains conversions which do not enhance the appearance of the army. 1 – A few minor conversions. (Weapons, Heads, repositioning of arms, etc.) 2 – Minor conversion with one or more extensively converted models. 3 – Many extensively converted models. (Body alterations, additionally green-stuff work, etc.) 4 – Majority of the army is converted with many extensive conversions throughout. 5 – Majority of the army is strikingly converted.
Note: Bases that are modeled beyond simple paint/flock will also count toward Conversions scoring.
1-20 BRUSHWORK
1-5 – The Basics (Neat, complete, and ready for battle.)
1 – Three colours painted on the model. Not terribly neat. No detail work present. 3 – Noticeable attempts at neat painting throughout. Major details picked out. 5 – Fully Basecoated and neat. Decals and/or insignia and/or major details completed.
6-10 – Intermediate (These models look good on the table.)
6 – Some attempt to add depth and contrast to the model. 8 – Contrast techniques are evident and showing some skill and neatness. 10 – Fully painted and completed models. Detail work exhibits skill. Contrast is visible. Still somewhat weak upon close inspection.
11-15 – Expert (These models look great on the table and look good up close.)
11 – Details and contrast hold up under closer inspection. 13 – Many details and a more successful contrast range shown upon close inspection. 15 – Clear ability to show contrast even upon close inspection. Very fine detail work. Skills are on display.
16-20 – Master (You’ve got some of the nicest models we’ve ever seen.)
16 – Models are very well done. Occasional minor flaws revealed upon close inspection. Mastery exhibited. 18 – Models are exceptional. True mastery of one or more techniques. 20 – Flaws cannot be found. All models in the army are stunning. Models are above and beyond all expectation.
0-3 ADDITIONAL EFFORT
0 – No models or units which rise above the demonstrated appearance standard of the army. 1 – Intermediate Brushwork met / One or more models or units which rise above the demonstrated appearance standard of army. 2 – Expert Brushwork met / Several units or models which rise above the demonstrated appearance standard of the army. 3 – Master Brushwork met / The effort put into this army as a whole raises the standard of the army’s appearance throughout.
±2 JUDGES’ ADJUSTMENT
The Judges may award up to 2 points for additional work done to enhance appearance. The Judges may penalize up to 2 points for incomplete or messy appearance.
