Any eldar players ever try a list with primarily wraithguard and wraithlords?
Your fancy helmets don't tend to interest me, but these two models and the old warlocks do....
then I saw wraithguard could be troops... but unless I'm wrong they'd have to be 10 strong to do so right? seems expensive... and slow...
what would a themed eldar army look like with wraithlords as your heavies and wraithguard featuring primarily in it...
basically the souless construct list.... is it possible? or is it just fantastically bad? They seem fun to paint.... (yes this is how it starts for me ;D )

yes you can, dunno how good it is, maybe have a few squads of firedragons in tranports and maybe some warwalkers outflanking and killin transports...
but yeah one squad is almost 400pts (with the spiritseer having powers and a spear) here is a quick list I made up.... probablt not the best but here we go...
eldrad
fire dragons - 5 man, waveserpent TL shuri-cannons
wraithguard - 10 man, 1x spirit seer [enhance]
wraithguard - 10 man, 1x spirit seer [enhance]
storm guardians - 17 man, 2x fusionguns
wraith lord - BL, EML
wraith lord - BL, EML
warwalkers - 3x, all EML
exactly 1850

actually, to be themed Iyanden (sp?) I'd likely not include eldrad at all (wrong craftworld) not have fire dragons, storm guardians or warwalkers.... or any mech for that matter....
not sure if the avatar would fit, but that would likely be another model I like that would fit the T6 R Us
but yeah, the two wraithwall blocks and wraithlord kit was what I was thinking... but another wraithlord, avatar, and perhaps a couple smaller elite wraithguard units....

I've seen it run, those full blocks with farseers and warlocks and fortune are really tough to get rid of from my experience. That said, I last ran into that list in mid 4th ed...a lot of nasty things have arrived since then. Those wrathcannons are nasty against big monsters, but the short range can be an issue. If you were going to do full wraithguard, I'd look at at least 1 small elite unit in a serpent to try and hunt things like Trygons, which can singlehandedly ruin the day of such units.
They'll also have a bit of trouble with big hordes simply due to lack of attacks. You'd probably want at least 1 Lord equipped with Scatter/Shuriken Cannon or something to thin out mobs, or as Tom put up, a squadron of War Walkers (though I much prefer dual scatter lasers in support of something like that.
In terms of the Avatar, he's fluffy in basically any Eldar list....every craftworld has one, and he's awakened any time they enter a major conflict. Also fluffy for Iyanden would be Prince Yriel and a unit of guardians or something. Yriel is one of the grosser special characters in the book, with super high Initiative, a powerweapon that wounds on 2 with 4 or 5 attacks and the nasty Eye of Wrath which can centre a S6 AP3 template on himself (and go before Halberd Grey Knights!) He also costs the same pointswise as the Avatar, so they could easily switch in and out.

I just put eldrad so he can do the work of 2 farseers and cast fortune on both units of wraithgaurd so then either have enchance ( most people dont expect I5 wraithguard) or conceal (for all the heavy fire they'll take)

A "Normal" MC spam footdar list looks something like:
Avatar
FortuneSeer
10x Striking Scorpions or 10x Harlequins for counter assault support
10x Wraithguard + Spiritseer Warlock with Enhance or Conceal (I like enhance because 4+ cover is so easy to get in 5th)
10x Wraithguard + Spiritseer Warlock with Enhance or Conceal
7x Pathfinders (They can infiltrate onto an objective with the scorps, or soften up enemy infantry blocks, and work very well in these lists cough 2+ cover cough)
2x Wraithlord with EML/BL
Wraithlord with BL/Wraithsword
That list of models usually comes in around somewhere just north of 1800. you can tweak and expand/contract to fit what you want.
The big key to doing footdar right is, you have to keep them on foot. Adding a couple serpent transports will not only eat up your points and lower your model count, the transports give people an d easy target choice for their heavy weaponry.
The big strengths for this list are playing against marine mech lists, where they lack the heavy firepower to put down T6 models easily, the big weaknesses are that against guard or orks, you auto lose. Guard will template your wraithguard off the board, and orks will overwhelm you with volume of models.
I could probably go on about this for hours because footdar was amazing in 2nd/3rd ed when I started playing them, but I'll cut it there and I'll let you ask some questions.

Well basically I really like the wraithguard and wraithlords, so if I were ever to consider eldar at all (after smurfs and necrons are done!) I'd only want a themed list of models I like (I'm weird that way... I can field ONE daemon list for example ) When I heard the fluff for the Iyanden craftworld it got me interested in the idea... but to be honest I'm not really too keen on Yriel... he's okay, but I'm not really sure what to put him with, or how to best use him, and he's a dude... everything else is a mage or dead... that seems cool to me... kind of like an animated construct army... plus the model is just so high elf... I have no idea if it would be terrible, or just get auto-tabled as you said by certain armies... but I usually build armies now as painting and conversion projects... winning is of lesser concern to me actually.... Harlequins are some of my favorite models in the range... but that darn Tommy is already building a harlie army! But if they're the closest thing that would fit the theme, I'd run them... pathfinders could be cool I guess.... So from a fluff standpoint (yep, I'm going there!) What would suit the theme alongside the wraith guard and wraithlord (and mandatory spiritseers) See Matt... some people think Footdar is cool... :

Haha, but I own 0 Wraithguard! My foot-dar would be running Banshees or Dragons on the board! Ew!

For years I have always said that if I ever do Eldar I'd be doing exactly what you're looking at doing Shannon Ask Matt. The only thing stopping me was the fact that Wraithguard are all metal (and something like $18 each at the time I considered it) and I'm not that big on converting (painting is time consuming enough) which would have off set the high cost. I think it'd be a list that would be tough for most fun armies, but wouldn't be that hard for a competitive list. I'd put it on the level of the Dreadnaught Heavy list I've been working on getting painted up for my Blood Angels. Somethings will just laugh as they sweep it aside, but some armies are going to have tough time dealing with it.

Well cost and lack of competitiveness have never stopped me before! lol...
We'll call this "idea in the works #3"
(I'm actually thinking my smurfs will be complete by the end of December... another 3 months for crons... so a good spring/summer project ;D )
