Wow, a game no one really played, updated when no one is probably interested. Good move GW

well maybe it's more popular in Europe or something?... I don't know anyone who plays this game, nor have I heard of much buzz on any forums about it...
wonder what their sales are for LOTR compared to their other two games?
and how much did they sink into dreadfleet while we're on the topic?

Is this a rules update or just the books? They're probably trying to go off the buzz of the Hobbit movie, I'm thinking.
I've still got a bunch of this stuff in the basement from when I played with my brother-in-law when he was living with us. It's a fun little system, but really has to be held at a skirmish level or it gets super messy, and heroes can get ridiculous VERY quickly. Some of the Elf Lords can solo armies for example, and that's not even Sauron or the Balrog.
The War of the Ring rules actually seemed like a lot of fun, I ALMOST got the book, but I'm not going to sink that cash into something that I'm sure no one else would play.

When I worked for GW (which was when these movies were released) the game brought people into the store, but didn't really create any sales. It attracted the attention of a lot of younger gamers so we started to treat it like a "starter" game to get younger players into the store. No one really over the age of 20 was interested in it and the average age of the players was about 12.

I originally played LOTR and I actually enjoyed it when I played in the store.

I didn't like it much. Although it was cheaper than any other game.

I have to say that I had a lot more fun with it than I expected...you just have to do some balancing yourself in terms of setting up victory conditions and limiting points/heroes. If done right it can be a pretty good skirmish system, but it certainly isn't what I would consider a "competitive wargame"....more like an expanded boardgame idea.

It was a shame it didnt catch on here because the game itself was quite fun. Sadly the mins were such low quality, I still have all my orcs for it and they are such horrible sculpts I am sorry i ever bought them.

ugh I hate finecast. Metal was better in my opinion. It makes me feel proud when I put all my army in box pick it up and it's heavy. (Even though there is only about 50 models). It makes me feel like I have a big army.
