Was thinking and thought, why isn't there any small games of 40k between 2 or more squads of troopers that may be on a scouting mission or a patrolling the perimeter of a major city or camp. I think it would be a cool idea to try out because not all battles are fought with huge armies but with tiny groups of soldiers. This would also allow you to use the under used, but very cool nigh fighting rule say if you wanted to do a raid on a enemy camp of sabotage a factory using explosive. I think there is almost an infinite number of special rules that you could make for this and it would be cool to try out.You could also use this in a campaign to sabotage a shied generator in a city or to try and assassinate the enemy commander.
I just though up this on the spot so as you can see there are a lot of possible scenarios you could make and it would make the game a lot more tactical so what do you think?

There were also rules available for what was called Combat Patrols which were about small forces meeting on the table. Trenton has had a couple combat patrol events/tournaments which were quite successful till the new rule set came into play.

Yeah, 40k in 40 minutes used to have rules for small game like that, off the top of my head the rules were something like this:
400pts, You must have 1 troop choice and you MAY take an HQ choice.
No vehicles with a combined AV of 33 or higher may be used, (Front + Side + Rear)
No models with 3 or more wounds, or a 2+ save.
No Named Characters of any kind are allowed.
You were also allowed if you didn't have an HQ to field (Due to above rules) to have a substitute HQ, for example in the Eldar Codex, the Farseer, Autarch and Avatar all have 3 or more wounds, so I'm allowed to take a Solo Warlock as my HQ choice.
There was also Kill Team, which was usually 200-250 pts I believe, but instead of following FOC or unit selections you simply bought models from your codex and each model moved independently (As if they were their own squad). So you could field something like this for example:
Eldar Kill Team Example Pathfinder (26) Dark Reaper Exarch (47) Warlock with Destructor (35) 4x Dire Avengers (48) 2x Warp Spiders (44)
Total: 200pts

I think that these small games would only really work in a campaignI woouldn't just play them at nexus on saturday. Just because bigger is better.
