Well you could just play to have fun and to hell with who wins? Just a thought. I had that thought a few years ago and expressed it on a more national forum. I was told that if that's how I felt I should never enter another tournament again. ;D

If anyone is desperate to get 3 lists done, I'm sure I could let some stuff be borrowed....I'm pretty close to being able to run 3 factions, and I have a lot of choice with my Menites, and at least one other valid list with Cryx... which brings up the idea, if you want to do three factions and you have two friends, work it out with them that all three of you use the same three lists and switch between games lol

This is a game right? aren't they supposed to be fun???

Well according to the people at the old tauonline forums, yes. If you're not there to compete then you're wasting your time. I disagree with that, but as I said, I was the only one who held a different belief. I haven't been to the site since.

Well when you are at a tournament you are suppose to bring the best of you and beeing there to compete... Honestly I hate having no challenge during a tournament game (for example playing a guy that dont even know his rules)... during saturday game or Thursday game I dont care if you wanna bring the worse list ever and you dont know how to play and wanna learn but comon a tournament is a tournament you are suppose to have fun, yes , but you wanna compete and show what you learn from all those practice... Anyways Im sorry Im out of subject from this thread....

...so your first time at a tourney, you bring a list including models you own... you're learning the rules and you're not anticipating taking the whole thing or winning a prize, but you're trying your best and trying to have fun first and foremost... sounds like a guy I'd love to play, even if I had to go a bit slower, or explain a few things...

we all have different opinion and I respect yours Shannon... Im just saying that for me a tournament is a tournament and its not everyone that is ready for tournament it takes time and I remember when I start playing a while ago I waited a long period before starting tournament because I wanted to make sure I was ready but thats my opinion and like I already said Im out of subject so Ill stop there

Too true. Its a game, having fun should be the main reason, if not the only reason, to be playing it,

Having fun is the main reason of the hobby, but I think we're a little off the mark about this one right now. I'll come back to this in a sec.
I disagreed with the way this tournament is set up as I understand it. That's just how I feel about it (and I know I'm not the only one on either side), and a bunch of posts talking things either way won't change that at all. When a tournament format punishes me for not having multiple armies for a game, I honestly don't think that's fair. You could liken this to having the 40k Championship include a comp hit for not playing a different army on day 2, for example. Does it matter a bunch in the end? No, not really. Does it affect your overall? Yes, yes it does. Is the point of a competitive event to enjoy it, and yet still try to win?
Some will argue it either way. I say yes, yes it is.
Which comes back around to the point: I can have fun playing the game any time I want, provided I have an opponent. I don't need to pay into and commit a day toward that end if I don't think I'll end up enjoying myself doing it, and because I don't own three different forces to play shouldn't reflect upon that, but this time around it apparently is. I acknowledge my competitive nature in a hobby that is equal parts luck as it is skill, and try to enjoy myself despite the reality that I can just bomb a game because I can't beat a 50/50 average on dice. That's part of it, I can't control it, and so one learns to move on.
Just like I can look at something a say: "You know what, I don't agree with this particular set-up, so I think I'll pass." At no point when I joined the hobby did I sign a paper that said I had to support every event equally and fairly that takes place. I don't mind saying no, and if that makes me lesser because of it, well then fine.

Well I certainly for one wouldn't expect everyone to support every event... I don't! there's lots of tournies I don't go to locally and in the extended area... some because I'm kind of "meh" about the format or the game system at the time... some cause I'm just "meh"... there's no way I'd think lesser of someone who doesn't show up to a particular tourney! (hell, I'd have to think lesser of myself then wouldn't I? ) My only real point in all of this is that we really should get some clarity from Mike before jumping to any conclusions, as this format seems kind of unclear... if this is forcing us to play three different armies or something like that or we don't have even a chance at the tourney, yeah, I'd agree that's pretty strange and kind of unfair to those of us with, well one army...I'd second guess going myself actually.... if it's expanding the two list format to three? well I'm kind of okay with that... if comp is all separate and maybe for a different award or something like that.... I think we need more clarification about how the tourney is scored... (which is part of the reason I really like having these things posted WAY ahead of time!) I'm certainly going to ask Mike some more questions about this on Thursday (the only time I'll be seeing him this week, so I want to be sure to get some clarification)... if anyone else can talk to him beforehand that would be great too... I'm sure if Mike is scoring things in such a way that people don't want to come to the tourney, he'd likely change that up if it is very unpopular or will result in a poor showing... he wants the tourny to succeed after all right?

Which is why even I said that if I'm made wrong, I'd have no issue at all in attending. I just don't think it's fair that I should be penalized even in the least because I don't have the capacity to run three completely different lists.

Ok, so I talked to Mike today about the event. It IS 3 lists from whatever army you want, play each one. You CAN bring the same list 3 times, but there will be a comp penalty. He said that in each round you see the scenario and what lists your opponent has left, then pick one.
He also said that there would be leniency for people that only own 1 faction or one or two casters, and that the goal was to stop people who owned a ton of stuff from simply bringing their nastiest list and only playing it.
So for example, if someone like myself or Kiel, who own several armies, were to show up with only 1 force, we'd get 0. If you were brand new to the game and had JUST purchased a force, you aren't going to be smacked that hard.
So if you're concerned about a personal lack of models or variety, I'd talk to him....But honestly, by the sound of it I'm not too concerned personally.
