(for 2250 level, a few rats get dropped to add two doomwheels... and yes, I'm removing casualties by the handfuls - luckily they're just rats!)
The Plague
Skaven society is fraught with betrayals and double-dealings that often tip the balance of power. Warlord Krik was in a position of power within Clan Griznik, leading many successful forays to the surface world to capture man-things and pillage their cities. The more his power grew however, the more jealous whispering amongst his house plotted against him.
During a campaign into the jungles of Lustria, the schemers of house Griznik cut off supplies and needed reinforcements. Outnumbered by lizardmen, Krik’s army was decimated, and he barely escaped with only his contingent of stormvermin and a sole unit of clanrats. The lizard-things pursued Krik’s forces throughout the jungle, pressing him further and further into the putrid swamps of a blighted region of Lustria.
Suddenly, the pursuit ended, and the lizard-things broke off. Krik kept running however, wisely suspecting a trick. His depleted forces happened upon a sickened area which appeared to be an abandoned lizardman temple. The vegetation here was blackened, and dripped of a foul poison.
Krik sensed movement around him, and his guard raised their weapons, protecting the warlord. Krik’s heart sank as he realized what he had blundered into. Plague-ridden monks surrounded the beleaguered rats, barely able to contain their ravenous bloodlust. Two plague priests came forth from the blighted temple. They hissed in unison “Do you come here to serve the Horned One and His Great Infection? Or do you come with plans of conquest warlord for we can accommodate either?” The hissing monks were barely contained by the raised hand of the priests.
Krik knew that to fight was to die, however to join in these putrid rites could be altogether worse. He summoned every ounce of his courage, and said “We are here to join in the glory of the Horned One and to recite from the book of Woe”.
“Excellent,” the twin priests hissed as one, “You are the one foretold”.
-------------------------------
The years spent in Lustria changed Warlord Krik forever. His once sharp mind was twisted by the horrors of Pestilens. With these terrible litanies however, came the power Krik craved. He returned to his former land with a terrible force. He now called himself the Lord of Affliction, and his army spread a terrible curse upon the land, bringing with it sickness and death. This force was known as The Plague.
The Lord of Affliction had his sights on Clan Griznik, and those who betrayed him, and wasted no time in bringing to bear his putrid forces, to take revenge upon those who had left him to die. As The Plague descended upon the fortifications of clan Griznik, the terrified clanrats could hear the ominous chanting of the twin priests; Harbingers of Pox and Decay, and knew that their end had come.
