finally saw the rules on those battle altars.... wow... and they're how many points for those things? my ogres are very, very afraid of that S8 d3 wounds shot that penetrates ranks as a bolt thrower.... in the magic phase.... but at least I'm not playing vamps! reroll to wound you say? flaming S8 bolt of awesome you say? bye bye mortis engines.... so sorry you're double the point cost of my righteous bolt shooting wagon of awesome... lucky it also gives me a free dispel dice too eh? Or perhaps the benefit of the OTHER one that rains templates on units, gives you a free power dice every turn, and an area effect "banner of the barrows" to ALL your units in range? wow.. the new battle altars are very cool for their points.... ... must be a new kit eh?

Is it me or is the army set to play like an IG blob army. Pack them in tight, command buffs all sit tight and shoot for all your worth then hope to out grind em!

Shannon, the War altar is awesome and Frank cleared things up for me about the steam tank. Read the rocket battery. d3 small templates, AWESOME!!
the other wagon are a little tricky to use. I mean buffs, yeah, I get that but what else? I might have to play test this a bit. Maybe I'll bring my Empire down on thursday.

"Dearest Empire Players, We of the Wood Elf and Beastmen community are so sorry to hear about what happened to your army with the new book. We are so sorry about the appropriate readjustment ..er.. I mean "nerf" to your already ridiculous access to warmachines. We are so sorry to learn that you not only gained Monstrous Cavalry that have a 1+ armor save but also gained another excellent cavalry unit that's Stubborn to further add amazing synergy with the new units. We are so sorry to learn that your ridiculously low priced core units were raised to appropriate levels and that your generals now provide the Lizardman "Cold-blooded" to their unit for break tests. We are sorry to learn that your Steamtank is no longer auto-slain by spells like Purple Sun or Pit of Shades. We are also so sorry to learn that your new rare selections have provided you with mobile artillary and augment options that make any close combat army break into a cold sweat. We are so sorry you lost your ability to gain 2 -6 dispel dice or so automatically in a magic phase by virtue of spamming warrior priests. We are also sorry that your detachments gain the benefits/special rules of their parent unit. We are so sorry that your army became even more balanced and versatile than ever. We are so sorry that you have to rely on intelligence and skill rather than bombarding your opponent from your deployment zone with almost as much artillery as Dwarfs get and gunlines. We are so sorry you gained access to not only dragons but also griffons and pegasi! So sorry that you have now gained so much versatility that you can handle any army! We are so sorry that you can take characters that exist solely to assassinate other characters for cheap. We are also sorry that your new rare selections are just as cheap as your other warmachines yet provided amazing benefits to the army. It has to really suck to be an empire player right now and have a balanced army.... Love, The Wood Elf and Beastmen community. p.s. Stop whining, your book is awesome. Is it me or is the army set to play like an IG blob army. Pack them in tight, command buffs all sit tight and shoot for all your worth then hope to out grind em! Not that I play 40K but the new altars may very well serve that function of buffing by parking them behind a block of infantry. Between warrior priest hatred, prayers and altar buffs, the infantry should actually be able to at least earn its keep - very similar to beastmen gors with primal fury. Meanwhile, the cavalry and stanks can move around and hit the flanks.

looks like the buffs serve to really amp up the infantry well... along with cheap characters that also give some considerable benefits with rerolls... takes mediocre "regular dudes" and raises their calibre quite a bit to some unexpected results...
first word I thought of when I read the new book was "synergy"... this book has alot of it... and I think once we see combos start piling up, the results are going to be rather interesting...
that rocket battery is pretty damn evil... who cares about the motars with that thing... and flagellants went to special too... damn......

They went off to a better place (someone who wanted my empire/dogs of war) course as soon as I didn't have them anymore the Empire got a new book! (worked with vamps too, apparently if I get rid of an army they get updated!) Now if someone would just want flood soaked, badly painted needing to be stripped wood elves, we'd be in business

Joust knights would be awesome. I would even put someunhatched eggs on their bases.
Just the thought of Joust knights is funny. Though at the same time just awesome.

Just noticed another part of the stank rules that limits it somewhat. A maximum of 3 points can be put into any one allocation so max move is 3d6, not 5d6 and strongest flame template is S4, not S6. Mind you, with Birona's timewarp, you could have a stank going 3d6 x 2 which would be pretty cool if you roll high on the dice and rocket from one side of the board to the other!
