The magic resistance will improve an existing ward save when saving against damage caused by spells.... If the character does not have a ward save it gives one... so yes, a slann with an existing ward save (or a blood thirster for example) can have a 2+ ward save versus damage caused by spells. It would not improve the ward versus anything else... pg 72 BRB.

The MR3, no matter how you get it, is useful for preserving key units against spell damage - unless someone rolls 10 for the purple sun which allows no saves and runs it across your entire army of low Initiative troops

yes "someone" lol, but really in three games i got it off 3 times, once small with the 10, so took out half and army. One time with the large tenplate but only moved 6 inches but took out 95% of a unit. and once with small tenplate it moved 6 inches but was over elves so i think one or 2 died.

I can put the 2+ ward vs spells on my 35 Phoenix Guard for 25 points.....
Hell, Caradryan carries around a 4+ ward vs spells for any unit he joins of 175....
