Well, there is one in every family! Right! Gives a slightly different meaning to getting 'Franked" too!
Cheating on taxes and Benford’s Law
By Canadian Capitalist | TaxesOnline only, 12/04/10
Benford’s Law states that in many real-life sources of data, the leading digit is not distributed uniformly. Instead the digit 1 tends to occur with a probability of 30.1%, 2 with a probability of 17.6% but 9 has a probability of just 4.6%. In an uniform distribution, you would expect the digits to occur with a probability of 11.1% (1 out of 9). Physicist Frank Benford stumbled upon the phenomenon when he noticed that the first few pages of his logarithmic tables were more worn than the last few. Media reports indicate that the Canada Revenue Agency employs Benford’s Law to flag tax cheats for further scrutiny. Unlike, made-up numbers that are picked to give the appearance of randomness (you can find an example here), real-life data in tax returns tend to follow Benford’s law. With so many Canadians choosing to file their taxes electronically, it must be a snap for the CRA to check for non-compliance in child-care receipts, charitable donations and medical expenses.

Hmmm, that does have potential for warhammer. Now, if real life numbers on a scale of 1-10 result in 1 occurring 30.1% of the time or roughly 3 times more likely than normal, the same phenomenon on a d6 should result in 1 roughly half the time under the right conditions. Accordingly, by visualizing a fictitious tax receipt I should be able to increase the odds of rolling insane courage 900% from 1 in 36 to 1 in 4. I can hardly wait to try it out! ;D

Actually I'm refining my 'cousins' hypothesis based on my d6 rolls since I taken up this game almost two years ago and it goes something like this: 1. Based on the d6 roll for 1st turn Benford's law is applicable on a 1-3 and is reversed on 4-6 roll, except when; 2. A d6 roll for sides of 1-3 is obtained then it reverses all subsequent applications of Benford's Law. 3. A d6 roll for sides of 4-6 is obtained then it maintains the reverse application of Benford's Law, however it becomes skewed for all leadership and psych tests (more 4,5, 6's than 1,2,3's) and for hits, wounds, dispel, casts and miscast table (more 1,2,3's than 4,5,6's) 4. On a d6 roll to determine who you will play, on a 4-6 you only get 'Franked' and on a 1-3 you get 'double Franked'. ;D
Has anyone else seen this phenomenon? Or is just my dice! ;D
