Hey everyone, I figured I'd show you all what I've been working on.
Well, there they are, my new blue Necrons. This thread will hopefully be a nice work in progress log about making this army. I'll talk about some of the issues I've had with Necrons, and why they're awesome. There's going to be a lot of pictures. I've accomplished a lot in the last little while. Obviously, bases still haven't been done on anything.
First, the models:
The Overlord was the first model I bought, and sadly the first cast was garbage so I had to call GW for a replacement. Painted him up as test colours and decided to go ahead. Still not the biggest fan of his pose, but the model is pretty nice overall.
Trazyn was purchased simply because of his fluff and background in the book. Absolutely hilarious character. I had to get him, even if I wouldn't be using him in many games. He's pretty overpriced but absolutely hilarious. He's come to steal yo shit!
The first one of these I bought was also garbage. He was missing his entire left shoulder. It's a shame, cause the rest of him was perfect. Another call to GW, and it was sorted.
Hated this model when I saw him in photos, but he's great in person. Once again, huge flaws in the finecast, but I managed to repair him up and fill his dozens of holes. Crypteks are pretty awesome squad leaders. Really nice wargear options.
Now, onto the troops, you've seen some warriors (currently have 23 painted), here's my Immortals, the second unit I purchased for these guys.
Absolutely awesome kit. Tons of fun to assemble (god help you if you accidentally mix the arms up). Really nice and big infantry. Love these guys.
This kit blew me away when I bought it. They're absolutely MASSIVE. Gotta be almost three times as tall as a terminator. Crazy detailed. It's a shame that this photo washes out all the highlights on these guys. I really happy with how their tails turned out. They look really properly segmented with those highlights.
My only suggestion is that you should paint the bodies before gluing the legs on. I didn't and I almost regret it. A lot of nooks and crannies on this model. You also have to watch out, the joints on the tails aren't the strongest, especially on the tall guy. I might have to pin them in the future. He's broken twice.
I was going to give them all warp coils on the models, but I was afraid that there wouldn't be a good way to transport them without them all snapping off.
For my other fast attack so far:
Can't really complain with free units. Dropped each base down to three scarabs to match their profiles and to get more models out of it. I think these guys turned out great. Painted the full squad in a day, no problem.
Here's the army as it currently stands:
Believe it or not, this was all assembled and painted in about a month, maybe a little less. Necrons paint up quick and easy. Loving them so far.
The majority of the problems I've had so far has been with Finecast (yes, another complainer) and the Warriors. So far I'm 0/3 with Finecast purchases. It's really a shame. Everything has turned out with big sections missing, or massive amounts of bubbles. The Cryptek took hours of scraping and filing to get him smooth. When I bought him, the whole model had a rough texture. It's pretty upsetting. GW has been good with replacing them though. It just seems like the whole Necron line is messed up.
I've seen what perfect Finecast can do, and it's a beautiful thing. It's just a shame that I haven't had any luck in this department.
Also, the basic Warriors have been giving me trouble. It seems like the arms never quite line up properly. Even after they're glued, the arms and the torso joints always seem to be the weakest. I just really don't want to pin forty of these guys. Some of the sprues have also been a little warped. I think the molds are finally showing their age.
Other than that, the new models are great.
Here's what I'm working on now:
That's right, more Warriors! I have twelve more here that brings my total up to 35. They're getting pretty boring to paint. I just want to have them all finished. They were free though, so I can't complain!
I also have an Annihilation Barge being shipped to me right now. I'm going to convert the Overlord to run as a normal Lord to stick with the infantry. I'll drop pics of him later.
Lastly, the boys have a brand new home as well:
Sabol makes some nice kit, but I'm really not sold on this over the Mark I. It seems pretty loose on the inside, but I guess it's reinforceable. The bigger outside pockets are nice. I'll also probably be using the clips to attach it to their Platoon bag to carry the bigger vehicles like Monoliths or Ghost Arks.
Please let me know if you guys have any questions. Comments and criticisms are welcome! I know that photos always make you spot mistakes and how messy you work, but I'm really focused on just getting out a TT++ worthy army as quick as possible.
I don't want to take another 10 years to finish an army.
I can also help people out with blue rods or blue monolith crystals. Lemme know!
