A kinda fun list I put together and used today against Dany's Iron Hands
This has a Crisis Suit death star where O'Shovah can slaughter dudes with his WS5, I5, S5, 4A base and ignores armour saves weapon. Not that he needs to with 10 rapid-fire plasma shots and 8 missile pod shots. They can mop up anything they don't kill with that shooting.
The heavy duty Blood Angel bro squad taking 2 Divination powers can work in a semi-tandem relationship with the O'Shovah squad, and also help out by getting into fisticuffs with something the Crisis suits are not exactly interested in.
Infantry however has to hoof it (They've got cloven hoofs) across the field howerver with only the Pathfinders Devilfish being able to take 'em places. However that's still 30 shots at 30" or 60 at 15" to deterr most units away from them.
Hammerheads will do as they please. (List is slightly different then the one I used today.)

I know you really like the Blood Angels allies for it, but from a pure list standpoint they are the weakest part of your list and your only close combat threat unit. They are an obvious first priority target of choice and will die in every game you play them in against a savy tactical opponent. I'd personally look more towards taking advantage of Farsight and the inherent strengths of your codex. Make a one sided list that is so potent at shooting but which crumbles in assault immediately so you can take advantage of it. I've always been the mind of less is more with tau unit sizes, and I've never quite understood the near max or max size fire warrior squads. I'd personally run 8 or 5 strong squads for their different duties in your list (be it grot objective sitter or anti infantry fire support) and rely on the rest of your specialized selections to carry you through.
But from the list itself and assuming you absolutely want Space marine allies- I'd push you towards Vanilla Space Marines, why? Battle Brothers. That means they can cast those tasty psychic powers on your units- this means biomancy and TK become available as buffs for your tau- or even eldar so you can take proper advantage of these buffs. Put said Librarian / farseer in with your suit mob and have him cast buffs up the wazoo. That is my personal opinion of the Tau ally possibilities though.

Hmm, good points. I was thinking of Space Marines today, and thinking about different things with that Battle Brothers buff. I'm definately having a reconsider, 'cause I don't think it's possible to make a list that's good at everything with the Tau anymore. However they're still plenty of fun. :>
Today though, the BA's were fairly decent, apart from where they got shot up after killing Vulcan, a tac squad and the remnants of a Sternguard unit. Hammer and Anvil against Iron Hands didn't do them any favours there.
I'll also definately consider splitting up the Fire Warriors in to smaller groups or squads though. I like them in the units of 12 so that they don't have a moral check after losing 2-3 guys from a round of shooting though. 'Cause they typically fall back when that happens.
Also, I'd never ally with the dirty smelly Eldar. I may play an alien race, but I have standards. =P

I will say i agree about the BA thing that tom said.
Now doesn't farsights breakaway faction say you need to take one unit of crisis suits and the body guard doesn't count as well as you can only have one hammer head?

I looked at that, and you may be right, but I have no clue what the book is trying to tell me when I read that...

it is a little weird. what it means fluff wise is that since they a breakaway faction they have limited reasourses compaired to a normal tau army.
what that means list wise is that if you take farsight it adjusted the Foc. normally you can take anywere from 1, 2 3, or 6 of certain things, 1 of unique , 2 hqs 3 of most choises and 6 troops. but this adjusts them like how the tau army adjusts it so you need 1+ of fire warriors as in you have to take a unit of fire warriors.
so you need to take a units of crisis suits, but it also says that you can only take 0-1 as in you have a max of one of the others it mentions, hammer heads, broadsides, stealth suits, pathfinders, piranhas and sky ray. It also says you cant have any of the etherals kroot and vesbids,

It's my opinion that the right number of fire warriors is 9. There are merits to taking full units, but I'd rather take 4 units of 9 than 3 units of 12.
I completely agree with Tom, If I were to face this, your BA Friends and the Bro-Star would be priority threats one and two, since everything else is either a much less significant threat (Foot FWs), or will be take too much firepower to deal with (Hammerheads).
Also, things that would be classic "Rock" units, (Hammernators, Paladins, Nob Bikerz) while you'll be able to hurt them with shooting, you really lack the ability to mop them up, since they far out-class you in combat. Also, fast nasty things will be able to tie up your Brostar (Think Mephiston, Bear Lord on TWC, Khorne Lord on Juggy, etc) and prevent their shooting, thus really taking the wind out of your deathstar.
Tau use Kroot because they crumble in combat, and don't allow you protection from shooting. Anything that takes away from Tau Shooting, is a bad thing.

Ah, well since the list is illegal. I'll delete the list, but the information in the thread is worth it's weight in gold, and is the discussion.
Still have plenty to learn, and I suppose I should take advice as opposed to learning the hard way. =P I greatly appreciate it though!
