So, here we are. November 3rd 2012. Today is the day I will be starting the road to the kingston warhammer 40k club championship. I'd like to start out by mentioning, I've never actually owned a "fully painted" 40k army, so this will likely be quite the (mis-)adventure. Goals: 1) Have all models assembled WYSIWYG for the Dec 8th "End of the World" tournament. 2) Have all models painted to a 3 colour + based standard by Feb 1st 2013 3) Earn my first "fully painted" painting score at the club championship. Alright, let's take a look at where I am today. i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj578/rbowness20/PLOG/2012-11-03212731.jpgOh dear lord.... What have I done... Calling this an army is probably the most worst atrocity ever committed in the 40k universe. Every week I've been able to get this list out to play so far, the question "Are you allying Eldar with Guard?" has come up. Time to start fixing that. (To give you an idea, this is the list this is suppose to represent -> kingstonwarhammer.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=lists40k&action=display&thread=2897&page=1) Long road ahead. Stay tuned for misadventure!

Good luck Ray! fully painted is an awesome thing... once I started down that road with my armies I just can't play with them unfinished! (plus they roll saves better when they're full painted... honest!) I find it helps to set aside time every day to paint, even if it's only a 1/2 hour... slow and steady normally wins the race (although I've had a few marathon sessions the week before a tourney I'll admit!) and now that you've started a PLOG we'll all be watching to see the army come to life... you know, a little subtle pressure...

Days 1 & 2 - Since I'm waiting on some shipments from Forgeworld and GW, I decided to take stock of what is ready for the painting table. One of my Grey Hunter squads had fared particularly well in my recent game against Guy's Grey Knights, at one point making 13 of 14 armour saves, and returning fire killing 5 purifiers! I decided they had earned the honor of being painted. i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj578/rbowness20/PLOG/2012-11-05224215.jpgI followed the guide Shannon posted just a few days ago, Using a massive tank brush to just slop on my base color, and then used my regular brush to add the layers of grey and black as well as the basing. In total this took probably around 30 minutes per color, with overnight allowing the base colour to dry. They might not win me best painted, but Grey Hunter Pack Alpha is now ready for battle!

Thanks Ray for demonstrating that technique! the three colour minimum is fairly easy to achieve, and thankfully still gives room to go back once your army is at that threshhold and do the next three steps for the higher painting values!
progress is great to see... keep going!!!!

After my very close game against Jason, I have a few stand outs who have become worthy of painting. The first of which is my Aegis Defence Line, whose Quad Gun never missed a shot the entire game. i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj578/rbowness20/PLOG/2012-11-11150840.jpgI will note, this took FAR longer than I thought it would. Anyone thinking they can just slap 3 colours on this bad-boy and be GTG is sadly mistaken. There is a great deal of detail, and quite of bit of effort is needed to pick out the details. The image you see is after 3 of 5 steps in painting my aegis line. I'll update later on once I get to the detail steps, as well as post a full shot of the piece. Some advice for all those painting an aegis line. Don't be stupid like me and prime in the colour you want to be your armour colour, prime the Outline/Edge colour, and fill in the armour plates, you'll thank me later.
