....oh and going privateer press for the models means that I save around $300 off the cost of going GW... even buying 8 vehicles, which let's face it, is going to cost a person a good $400 alone if they go retail no matter what....

Aren't those models going to be mostly metal through? That would mean the army is going to weight like 10,000 pounds

troops will be metal... (and still cheaper than GW finecrap!) but all the vehicles will be plastic at least!
but could be a good workout for sure! it's rather sad that buying three metal figures at a time results in such savings per unit over buying them in boxes of five finecast models! Going GW means spending $400 on just the wracks alone and $360 on the grotesques! $760 on 52 infantry models seems a tad excessive don't you think???

Yeah, that seems a bit much especially when you've got 8 vehicles and a pair of MCS to buy too @50-60 a piece

Hi,
Sorry to jack this thread... kinda
Anyway, after poking my head into the tournament on Sunday I'm feeling the urge to play 40k again. Hopefully the feeling passes before I start buying stuff. (Managed to offload most of my blood angels when I got I to hordes)
But... I've started looking at DE and I'm curious: are the same models used for kabalite warriors and trueborn?
Also I mostly saw marine or chaos marine armies at the tournament so I'm wondering if people are avoiding DE or is power armor the 'in' thing right now?
Thanks

Yes trueborn and warriors are the same models so having a way to distinguish squads is important if you mix the two. Power armour is literally half of the armies and they will always be the "in" thing in 40k. To my knowledge outside of the UK the dark eldar have never been dominatingly popular (although there was that window right after the codex came out that they were the new hotness), but I guess that's the way it goes.I will say that venoms are very fun to use

I think DA have pretty nice models but the only thing I see from them is venom spam and Tom said its pretty much the only competitive build so maybe thats why there is not that many DA players...

Yeah there are lots of silly lists but if you want to do well you'll need mostly venoms because firing 24" splinter rifles out of raiders won't cut it since marines will bolter your raider to death.
The core strategy is splinter cannons on venoms shooting infantry with various lances supporting the venoms but there is still some room to maneuver around in a list.
Optional incubi body guard, scourges, reavers are all fair game. Fitting a pain engine in is even possible pending on how you configure the rest of your list (here's a hint you need a lot of darklances and if you sacrifice a heavy support option on a pain engine you'll need to build to shore up that weakness).
Personally I think it's a very fun codex (kelly is my spiritual liege though so I am biased) and if I had infinite money I would definitely have 2-3k of deldar.

Sorry Jack
I was reading about your list and my own DE list questions bubbles out. Then I started rambling. :/
