Well it's a new year brewing so time to paint a new army...
The list of what I'm painting up will include:
20 Sanguinary Guard 10 death company 3 priests Dante Astorath
As of today I now have all the models I need to build this... however:
10 sanguinary guard must be stripped down to the plastic and repainted 10 death company... ditto 3 priests - must be built out of other parts... and those parts must be stripped and repainted
hmmm... well it shouldn't be TOO painful I'm hoping, so long as the colour scheme doesn't get too complicated...
so I've decided upon a heaven and hell theme... Dante and the Sanguinary guard are the "heaven"... Astorath and the death company are the "hell"....
I've also decided that the sanguinary guard are animated stone statues (I have an idea of a display board that'll look pretty cool if I can pull it off)
What I haven't decided on:
- paint scheme for Dante -> I know I don't want him as a statue so he'll stand out as an independent character... but not sure if I want to go gold or not
- paint scheme for the death company... I know, I know, they should be black... but how to make them "hell" themed without looking like they're just chaos space marines... looking for more devil than daemon if that makes any sense....
- paint scheme for Astorath - given he needs to stand out, but still match the hell theme
I'm committed to have this assembled and fully painted by the end of January. That's one month to do up a 2k army... at least it's not very many models... lol....

Well I've taken ten Sanguinary guard and three priests out of their three day simple green bath and scrubbed... and scrubbed... and scrubbed.... ....and the priests had to go back in... lol.... that's some thick red paint they had!!!! So after some cleanup which seemed to take forever (probably just being far too picky) I've got the guard assembled and ready for paint While the simple green was doing it's work, I got five of the Sanguinary Guard from the box I got for xmas assembled and painted in the statue theme... still unsure what to do for the bases though... This morning I also put together the new finecast Dante and Astorath I got for my birthday (yes, it's a good week for presents for me ) any ideas for the outstanding issues posted above??? because I don't have any yet... come on Mike... you're always one to give me a challenge!

Why not crumbled statues for the SG bases?
Or bits of pillars?

Thanks Mike....
I was thinking pillars... but they're on a 25mm base, not 40mm... so would be a very skinny pillar... lol....

An update: Well of course I changed my list, and therefore some of my army theme... lol.... The core of the list is going to be: Dante 1 unit of sanguinary guard with two infernus pistols and power fist 4 units of sanguinary guard with power fist 3 jump pack priests Then I'm going to build two varients to add to this: option 1: two vindicators, furioso in drop pod option 2: three units of five devestators (4 missiles each) 2 attack bikes with multimeltas --------------------- So the update: I still have to purchase: 15 devestators 2 attack bikes drop pod In addition to the above I have to build: vindicator cannon (seems easy enough to convert) one arm for the furioso (only got him with one arm!) Thus far I have four units of sanguinary guard assembled and 3 of those are painted in the statue theme (I'll post pictures eventually but the bases are not in yet) Here are the bases I ordered yesterday: sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=1369#i/reniata_2012/big/templar_bases_25mm_1.jpg sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=755 sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=706 sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=705 the idea is to create a ruined temple with some scattered stained glass (thanks for the idea Mike!) mixing up the bases throughout the army (so some are standing on broken statues and some are on the temple floor). I'll use the same stone technique on the bases, but will likely wash them down to a slightly darker tone so the sanguinary guard will be able to pop off the bases a little more, while still appearing to be made of the same material... so that's the plan so far... I have to make Dante stand out, so probably going to do the "golden boy" armor... might give NMM a try (it's only one model after all) since I've never done that before My original thought is to make the vehicles look like stone as well... but can't really decide if this would be too much and maybe I should go with red... Devestators I think should likely be red... but thinking more of a deep, darker red than the bright blood red traditionally used... need something to tie the sanguinary guard to the devestators besides the base though... I tried the spot colour on the sanguinary guard but it didn't look right... they looked better as pure statues... gotta think more on this.... as usual I'm open to suggestions and really fired up about getting this army concept to completion... I'll worry about actually winning with the damn thing later

squad one...
there's a few custom jobbies in here... including the guy looking at his missile thinking it's broken... and the old school guard missile launcher that's been "appropriated" for the cause....
