ensure you prime them first for sure...
metal models benefit more than plastic from some form of sealer afterwards such as GW's 'Ard Coat or Testor's dullcote as they tend to chip the paint when they fall over and smack their stupid zoanthrope head off the table for the hundredth time...

yes... metal zoans fall over constantly... would gladly own the finecast version over the old metal one!

I don't mind resin, but I much prefer to paint a metal min...I find they just coat a ton smoother.

From what I've heard, most of the metal Tyranid stuff were not very good. Lictors loosing arms when you look at them.. Those Zoans falling over and breaking or just falling over..

are primers just spray paints? Not exactly. Primer sticks to the model and paint then sticks to the primer. As primers come in common base colours (depending on the brand) it can act as the basis of a colour scheme. My Black Templar army was primer black base with white and reds added afterwards.
