This is a thread about all those tactics for combating the pendant lord/hero. For those who don't know him he has a 1+ armour save, and a ward save dependant on your strength, and a modest str 4 gives him an essential 3+ wardsave. This resiliant character can also be given regen, and a host of other nasty options, so lets see how to beat him... i'll start!
First of all a big block of wounds like swarms or a horde of combat res can eventually break him or at least tie him up for a while, but beware he usually has a mount!
Lore of shadows is a great one the 3d6 str 1 hits with no armour save is great for poping this guy, as is the warriors lore of nurgle(no str for most spells), and any toughness test or take a wound spells or effects.
massed shooting can take him out but in this case the lower the strength the better because your unlikly to modify his armour save so need to modify the ward so when a 1 is rolled for armour hes most likely taking a wound.
Low strength killing blow, assasins, scrap launcher, low-moderate str characters with killing blow items, and some warmachines that could possibly low strength(warplightning comes to mind) means that if a lucky hit is put threw he better get lucky with his now low ward save or hes going splat...
i'd like to see some mroe ideas, so going ahead and scheme! ;D

I've had some moderate success in forcing toughness tests with my pestilens skaven...
I've also had some success in forcing the break test through combat res, if he's out on his own, or actually even better if he is in a unit... you can pick on the unit for the combat res (who don't benefit from the reverse ward save)...
.... it's rather unfortunate though when he's in a unit of knights, with a BSB and slams into you full force, then challenges for the extra CR (because he's pretty unbeatable in a fight)...

I've taken care of him a couple times, both through SCR. The key seems to be to force him into a unit that he can't easily handle, even with knights. Pushing him and his Knights into Phoenix Guard, then forcing him to fight the unit champ (who has a 4+ ward, so doesn't give up THAT much overkill), while my own characters kill knights or the BSB, has thusfar worked.
The other time I saw him he was on a monster, and I simply managed to kill said monster and then outnumber/rank him BADLY.
Not sure what I'd do if he was say, on foot in ASF Black Guard.....

Shoot shoot shoot!
Blackguard are t3 with a 5+ armour save and are pretty expensive, also the max unit size is only 21 so his death star wont be THAT big..
so if in black guard shoot like thiers no tomorrow or use spells and magic that dont target the unit(or just be content with miscasting alot=ring)... also breathe weapons, and warmachines are equally as devistating... good old organ guns or some stone throwers can pick off 4-5 a turn, and with m5 hes not getting there TOO fast
