Greetings, all and sundry.
I'm not a newcomer to wargaming or 40k, but I've been sort of out of the loop, as it were, for some time now.
Circumstances beyond my control forced me to relocate to the area around Brockville from Vancouver about a year and a half ago and since then I haven't been able to indulge much in the hobby, unfortunately, aside from assembling and painting models now and again. Lately I've been thinking of getting my feet wet stepping back into the hobby on the actual gaming side of things.
I haven't found anything as far as an online presence goes in my local area where wargaming's concerned, but the scene in Kingston's looking promising. I think I'll have to find some time on a Saturday to swing by and check out the open gaming - get a feel for the environment and all meet some new faces...perhaps even get a game in!
I look forward to meeting some of you fine individuals.
~~~
For those who are interested, the armies I collect (40k's the only system I'm really invested in, currently) are as follows: Necrons (my first and largest army), Space Wolves, Space Marines, Tau, Imperial Guard, Tyranids, Blood Angels, Chaos Marines and Dark Eldar
Well welcome to the community!
and if you're looking to get some games in there's always a good 40k crowd out on Saturdays
we've also got a local tourney coming up June 22nd at Nexus
Thanks for the welcome! I don't know that I'll be down today (Kingston's a bit of a drive) but I should have the next couple Saturdays off, so we'll see. Much as I'd love to dive right into some games I've actually had next to no experience with 6th edition since its release. I'd hate to take away from anyone's table time while I'm still getting to grips with the rules - would a Saturday still be the best day to drop by or is there another day of the week that would be more newbie-friendly? Never been involved in a 40k tourney before...
I can't speak for the others that would be there, but I was in a similar situation with 5th (I had taken an 8 year hiatus and was coming back right at the end of it) and will be in a similar situation with 6th (played one game since it came out before I went away. I will say, however, that I found the community at Nexus very accommodating in all aspects of the hobby.
There are actually a lot of us who haven't play too much of 6th ed, but there's a ton of helpful people around who can answer pretty much any questions you might have.
All very encouraging. I think I'll try and find a way to pack up my Necrons safe and sound (if only to have them handy) and head on down to Kingston this Saturday!
Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who was there last week - I had a great time getting acquainted with 6th and meeting some fellow wargamers. Not sure that I'll make it again this weekend, but I'll definitely be back, so you can expect to see the blue-orange Necrons of the Cephren Dynasty again in the future.
