I really love dragons and really hate how lack luster they are in fantasy, I hope in 9th the implement a "flyer" rule like 40k but for now I want to try one out. A lord on a dragon base costs 540 points, which leaves 60 points left at 2400. Dragons don't get upgrades for chaos but the have 6 S6 attacks and two breath weapons S2 no armor and S4 flaming. For the lord on top there are a few options and I want to hear what you guys think is the best. First is the daring no ward save lord: gave him a halberd (S6 5A from him) scaly skin 5+, dawnstone and charmed sheild, giving him a 1+ re-rollable Second is balancing ward and armor: so 4+ ward, enchanted sheild, biting blade. 1+ armor 4+ ward S5 AP Lastly is ward only: 4+ ward and Tzeentch. Purely a 3++ and just S5 What do you think? Could any of these builds make him reliable or should I just not bother, my deamon price rarely dies from cannon shots.

problem with cannons is they hit both the beast and the rider... it's not so much losing your lord that's the problem (as charmed shield solves that pretty easily) it's losing the dragon...
I like running big monsters though, and sure they get hurt by cannons, but alot of time they're only getting shot once or twice at most before they hit combat... I'd say risk it and try it out...

Either build will work. I think the key is getting him into combat as soon as possible so that he and the dragon can dish out some pain!!

On the cannon remark, I know I haven't been playing at Nexus for long, but from what I've seen people haven't been bringing many cannons. That might change if you start bringing a dragon though... maybe I will as well with HE! I could try the 2 dragon list that I ran in 7th edition (although Dragon Mage is still a little lackluster)

With high elves it's a tough sell over the Phoenix's, but you can make you're dragons stubborn if you keep the banner of ultimate win near it.

My ogres bring cannons but I hesitate to shoot them at dragons... dragons are awesome... why would I shoot them with a cannon? They're too much fun to fight!

Hah fair enough. And yeah that is one of the reasons I haven't considered bringing any dragons yet since I started playing again. A phoenix is just such an amazing choice at a much lower cost since they don't require a character on top, and almost as good in combat anyways. On top of that the blizzard aura seems absolutely epic when combined with the squishy t3 elves, which I don't think a breath weapon really makes up for.
