...Even a 1000 point game only takes an hour or so. A great beer and pretzels game really, not meant to complicate your life at all...
(from this thread)
Agreed. Having little time for gaming this past year, my son and I picked up the Bolt Action rules and a few vehicle models from Warlord. He had started on a Dreamforge Eisenkern army that he is proxying as Germans. The Dreamforge stuff is produced by Wargames Factory and I picked up their 28mm US Army box ($19.99 for 30 models) at the same time for a US force. We're stretching upgrades and options to get 1000 pts each, but can comfortably play 750 (20-30 models per side plus support).
Ruleset is fun and I really like the activation. Each 'unit' gives you a die/chit in a bag, 1 colour for your team, 1 for your opponent. You draw a die out and pick any of your units to give an order. Force comp is based on a HQ and 2 infantry squads. From there you can add more infantry, some support (a heavier MG, an anti-tank team, a mortar), plus usually a single tank/tank destroyer, a single artillery piece/AT gun, some higher HQ units, medics, arty observers and transport. Really is more of an infantry skirmish game from what I've seen, but could probably scale up well to bigger battles.
Few other things I've liked about it so far:
- recommended that terrain placement be very dense, line of sight limited to 12-18" if possible
- transports can carry multiple units up to their total capacity
