oh and if true that's why you'd need to take treekin instead of just a bunch of dryads... s3 dryads... sigh....

Those elf rules seem super strong when compared to the changes the forest spirits underwent, or is that just me? The S3 dryads will probably make them obsolete seeing as that is the same as the elves, so why not just take more shooters with those crazy bow rules?

2 attacks, T4, hatred and high weapon skill seems okay... maybe? unsure actually... the elves appear to be boosted fairly significantly, and the tree spirits dimished... I mean this isn't 40k... your core is just a requirement for the percentages, they don't actually score objectives or anything... so why take dryads at all if you can fill your core with shooters, your special with things that can actually fight (those S4 elves with ASF with their weird new weapon) and rares with the new treeman kit maybe? but it seems that the treeman really hasn't changed much for the better either (regular going down in points a bit but S5? really???) not sure, this seems at first glance a take a level 4 wizard and a million bows and call it a day... but I certainly hope not! (forest spirits are my favourite part of this army)

Yeah it seems to me like they are really pushing the elves portion of the woodies, when the tree spirits are what gave the army character IMHO. You can make bowlines and MSU with both DE and HE already we don't need ANOTHER slight variation on that same theme. I didn't realize they nerfed the S on Treemen as well.

apparently the regular treeman is S5 and the ancient is S6... which makes zero sense in my mind... telling me that giant treeman isn't as strong as an ogre irongut? really? the treeman's arm is bigger than the ogre and his big club combined!

Or that a giant tree man isn't as strong as a little elf with a great weapon...

Here we go! "Games Workshop's videos are always in my opinion the best way to first see the models. Too often the pictures in White Dwarf or that we see early just do not do the models justice, and these are no different. Here is a link to the official Games Workshop video for the 1st week of Wood Elves. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_cV6usub0U&list=PLEaPE4sLDA7sHwgHvPhnWEKPnweK7T_zO

another source chimes in from Faeit 212:
"Today someone has had a chance to see what is in the Wood Elf armybook, and given us a quick run down on what he saw. Wood Elves have really needed a new book for a long time, and I can recall time after time a few years back, people saying to just wait before getting any models. Here is our first look into the new book. Please remember that the book was not in front of him when he was giving us our preview. As always take these are rumors, until we get an official release. A big thanks to Father Gabe for sharing with us today. via Father Gabe on Faeit 212 Got a peak at the Wood Elf book today, here is what I can remember: Almost all skirmisher units have lost that rule, except for Way Watchers and War Dancers (and I think a new unit). Eternal Guard: No longer need a lord type choice, they are pure core. 1pt more than a combi-weapon. Asari Bow: 30", Str 3, Volley Fire, Armor Piercing Asari Spear: +1 Str, Extra Ranks (gotta double check +1 str but Im sure that's what I read) Forest Spirit Rule: Immune to Psychology and 6+ Ward Save. Dryads same cost as Eternal Guard, not flammable (not sure if they were before) Treekin are cheaper Glade Guard/Riders are cheaper. Giant Eagles: 1+ per rare choice Bonuses for being in woods, looked like you get to bring a piece of Woods terrain with your army. A lot of characters, new and old. The twin sisters are in with their mounts. "

What does 1 more point than a combi weapon mean for those of us who talk in skaven slaves?

Also I'm quite sad that the Rare archers in the HE book can basically be taken as core in the WE book, with slight differences

From Faeit:
"The next White Dwarf that is released tomorrow looks like a good one, with lots of Wood Elf information, a reveal of the next week's releases and the new mini-game; The Defence of Athel Loren. Here is a brief summary of what to expect in this weekend edition of White Dwarf.
via an anonymous source on Faeit 212 Starting with new releases, there are kits this (next) week:- Wood Elves ETERNAL GUARD / WILDWOOD RANGERS ( I really like the Ranger models!) 10 models ( UK £23.50 / US $39 ) Wood Elves SISTERS OF THE THORN / WILD RIDERS 5 models ( UK £22.50 / US $37 ) Wood Elves GUARDIANS OF THE DEEPWOOD 39 models > 3 x TREEMEN & 36 Dryads ( UK £135 / US $230 ) Normal pages follow profiling kits and variants with some nice looking paint schemes, The Cav models are dynamically posed and there appears enough distinction between the combo builds. As I said above I really like the ranger models with their 2 handed glaives and hooded demeanour with masks. Plenty of options and lots of different / unique "bits". BATREP: Wood Elves vs Beastmen ( have not read yet !) but spans 4 pages. ( Adam Troke vs Andy Keddie (new) ) Splitting this article is a poster which shows the Commissar figure as per the previous rumours detailing May 24th as I presume the release date..., tagline "There is no time for peace" Looks like this is the best we can hope for from GW that resembles marketing... PAINT SPLATTER: Covers the new WILD RIDERS Tag line for next week is "We have joy, we have fun....." NEW GAME: The Defence of Athel Loren Require Treeman, selection of opposing models, they used Bloodletters, dice and a gaming area 10 spaces by 5 spaces. Two page article on this game ( nothing too exciting in my opinion ). Rules: Wildwood Rangers: Always strike first, Forest Stalker, Immune to Psychology Special rule is GUARDIANS OF THE WILDWOOD Sisters of The Thorn: Always strike first ( Riders only), Fast cavalry, forest stalker, poisoned attacks ( riders only) BLACKBRIAR JAVELIN: Range 12" / Armour piercing & Poisoned attacks Special rules: Daughters of eternity: 4+ ward save Deepwood coven: Unit is as Level 2 wizard Designers notes on the new models Last 5 pages in the magazine cover the normal trivia and kind of stuff such as illustrations of the 3 Elf army books covers and a painted Imperial knight in the "hobby bunker", That's the edition in summary. And apparently these guys have the new army book in hand and are doing a full review of the entire thing section by section: 40kwarzone.blogspot.com.au/edit: okay these guys have the actual book (pictures to prove it) and are listing everything... see it before GW shuts this puppy down... or wait to be surprised! pretty much cements the fact that sometime this year I will be buying a woodelf army
