A week or so ago I took a video of the Arcadia Cannon in operation I saw something that bothered me. Originally there was supposed to be another middle section but due to interferences with it vs. the gunrings I had to cut it out which left a large void in the middle of the cannon. Back to the drawing board and a few lunches later I’ve changed the gunrings a bit. They’re now going to be connected into one large section rather than a bunch of smaller parts. This will keep them all perfectly aligned but will have the secondary effect of allowing me to add the guts as shown. Also fancied up the barrels a bit. I realize that modern weapons don’t have shroud holes AND a heavy muzzle end, but it’s my own damn model and I don’t care. Pictures show the old gunring vs. the new one. All the red parts are the new pieces. Modern .50 Cal still does.

I figured that since Mortarion is coming out soon I had better get Magnus finished. Don’t need two unfinished 40k Primarchs lying about. (Still have to paint up 30k Mortarion!)
I really, really hate a lot of points on the Magnus model. The guy who sculpted it clearly was an artist but had zero idea of the lore behind Magnus himself. The most glaringly obvious pieces to this are the overly abundant power plug-holes in his skin “from the time he was a Space Marine” (according to the dumbass sculptor)…. Yeah… he thought that Magnus was a Space Marine; and yes, whenever I see one I have a permanently running slow-clap going on in my head.
That said, my vision for Magnus is going to be mid-spell. His lower legs and right hand will be molded and cast from clear resin with LED’s behind them to throw light through them to emphasize the “I’m casting a spell to turn me into a monstrosity” vibe I’m going for. I’ll have to sculpt on his robes, body-armor and a bunch of other stuff as demon Magnus has all different stuff from regular Magnus did, but I’m thinking if keeping his leg armor the same just have it warping along with his lower legs and arm. Not 100% sure on that though. One thing is certain however, he won’t have wings so if anyone wants to buy some NOS Magnus wings, I’ve got a pair.
To start with I assembled the head with the Crimson King face plate option as it looks the most pre-heresy of all the face options and sculpted in new hair and the remainder of his crown to cover up where his horns on the daemon version went. You can’t see it now but there’s a hole drilled through his left eye where a fiber optic line will sit.
More updates as I get them! Woo! Magnus!

Please pardon the photo quality. I had to use the flash because I didn’t feel like getting up and turning on all the lights in the kitchen last night. This guy still needs some work but the majority of the kitbash has been done. Gravis captain that’s going to be a new Sorcerer in my Thousand Sons army. http://instagram.com/p/BVqlABMnway

Magnus got his clear legs poured two nights ago tonight, these cured faster. Took some of the spare clear resin and poured a few clear wound counters. I may or may not offer them as they’re ever so slightly less obtrusive but wouldn’t stand out as much. Also looking into some singles and/or a new design altogether using a spin-wheel. What are your thoughts? Which do you think would be better? http://instagram.com/p/BWQeKIFn8xd

They're cool. I personally preferred the ones I got, but that's because I painted ~5 of them to match each army I have and the fit in really well. If I wanted no effort I think the clear ones would be superior.

Not sure if anyone but me would find these useful, but I've put up (for as cheap as I can) the 3D model of the plates I made for Magnus's belt. To give you a sense of scale, the tall stones are 28mm tall and the short ones are 15mm tall. I had to thicken some of the lines of the hieroglyphs as they were too thin to print, even with a feature size of .1mm. They’ll be a challenge to paint but are super, amazingly detailed and would look good on not just Magnus but any Thousand Sons tank. www.shapeways.com/product/KPR3UVLMK/egyptian-cartouches-28mm-scale?optionId=63245232

so that's going to count as the cabling from when he was a space marine right? Like the designer of the model said?

.....what.... too soon?

It still chaps my ass… that dude likely wakes up every morning, looks in the mirror and says to himself “I did a good job on Magnus the Red” completely not knowing that he $@#&ed up so bad that he shouldn’t be allowed near another model ever again.
That said, doesn’t really bother me anymore when I look at MY Magnus because I fixed him! Took me a while, but he’s fixed, and that makes me happy in my brain.
