Not sure which shooty option to go for. I'm resisting the urge to magnetize the models. The options are:
Range:12, Str:3, AP:5 Assault 3, Twin Linked Range:18, Str:4, AP:- Assault 3 Range:18, Str:5, AP:5. Assault 3 *this costs an additional 5pts
I'm leaning towards the Twin Linked gun, but the range and Strength are holding me back.
Any thoughts?

what are they going on, what role are the covering and is the only point difference what you noted? Blind I am thinking first or third.

That's a good question. Shooting is really favoured in the game right now with most troops having ranges of 24" plus or minus. If I equipped 12" guns I would probably be limiting my troops to an assault role which, without a fast way to get up the field, could be devastating to me.
That leaves the two 18" options. They would let me be a little more tactical. Hold objectives while actually contributing to the fight.

Strength 3 is almost never worth the AP5 if you can take Str 4. Especially at 12 inch range.
Ask Storm Troopers how much their Ap3 guns kill at strength 3. The answer is not much.

Never take the spinefists... I normally go with the devourers, but deathspitters if you have the spare points aren't a bad investment, just if you're trying to have your warriors be low key or MSU style, keeping them cheap is always best... see I not only guessed the weapons but also what models they're going on...lol

Not sure which would be better for nids, but the 18" s5 would be my gut from just weapon profiles.

Yeah, Flesh-borers for sure. Devourers if you have spare points. Mix-matching is possibly a great option (say 10 Devs behind 20 Flesh-borers) because it keeps your expensive guns protected and keeps point costs down.

Right now I'm thinking T-gaunts are a trap. Right now I'm imagining infiltrating Lictors as FOOs calling in spore mines and ripper swarms. Then marching up the heavy stuff supported by venomthropes. Throw in a flyer or two and some synapse and Ta da, another world conquered.

ripper swarms are a trap... they get doubled out by S6+ which is everywhere, have garbage WS and only S3 attacks, also they don't score being swarms... and if they get out of synapse they have a 50% chance to just eat themselves...

True there is a lot of S6 out there. Gaunts are only S3 T3 as well. Maybe toxin sacs? I really feel the need to get up and in my enemy's face fast. They really aren't expected to last long, just eat bullets while other things move up and finish them off.

Gaunts are only S3 T3, but they carry a S4 gun and can upgrade to a three shot gun... most importantly they're scoring... they also unlock tervigons in sufficient numbers, and can actually tarpit... and are not WS2...
for the same price you can get 10 termagants or 3 ripper swarms.
The gants have 10 wounds, a S4 gun, I4 WS3 and score The ripper swarms have 9 wounds, no gun, I2 WS2 and don't score and are doubled out by anything S6+

I'm kinda wary about Tervigons. The synaptic backlash can potentially take out all the Termagants around it, making it a hot target.
