I don't know if you have read the new article in Games Workshop's site named Steadfast: A Guide to the Warhammer Rulebook yet, but in its Part 3 there's an appendix of easy to miss rules in the new BRB. The article is written by Jervis Johnson and you can read the following...
Templates: Note that generally there are no more 'partials' anymore - you are either hit or not. However, this isn't a blanket rule, so if an army book says that models partially under a template are hit on 4+, then that is the rule that applies.
Nothing like keep things simple....not! Well it looks like I'll be leaving the gryo on the shelf for now.

Yes, and the dwarf FAQ did not change any of the rules for the gyro so it is truly boned - another fine piece of 8th Ed crapmanship ;D

I have read this on other forums too, that the gyrocopter still has to use partials because it is in the Dwarf book. Bummer.

..... so is Jervis' tactical article counted as official rules? grrrr...... Jervis' article doesn't count for spit. The only time a rule is official is when its on the GW errata website as a pdf. The only gyro mention in the dwarf 8th ed FAQ regarded it NOT getting thunderstomp and made no comment on the template issue that is contained in the codex - i.e. only hitting on a 4+ with partials. Again, this is something we can amend locally and treat like a normal template but must be prepared to use the RAW rules when in a tourney environment. It is similar for Teclis since the HE FAQ only updated some things for Teclis and but did NOT change his rules to loremaster or something along those lines.

So Matt, for our stuntie friends could we have an official ruling on how this will be handled at King-Con?

That is the ruling as per King-Con. As soon as GW says different it will change, but an article in White Dwarf does not at all count as rules updates to me. Look how often their battle reports or army intro sections are wrong....

I now somewhat regret my decision on this one....
Ross's Gyro accounted for about 40 of my Spearmen over two turns.....

yep... the gyro cooked quite a few rats too....
....but it's definitely the decision that made sense... and I can live with a little logic back in the game!

so you do konw the it is in the brbook that gyro get partiais it is clear that it is class s a unique and that mine the the rle for it are in the army book and that books say it get partiais .the logic that breath waepon are one shot and that flame connons have to round a misfire dice .so theoreticaly a gyro can lad down fire one a uint ever turn and remember you and measyer at any time to make shower your get the max hit and partiais so if you get 5 turn out of the gyro or i say even 3 turn torn more out of it than any one breath weapon shot or flame connon.

Hmm.....good to know Scott. I certainly felt that "no partials" makes much more sense, but I didn't realize that the book itself stated that it still followed Army Book rules.....thought it was just Jervis babbling again.
