With DE just around the corner with all those open topped vehicles, the venom cannon (VC) might be choice again since there is no penalty against open topped.
Against other vehicles the venom cannon was still a secondary anti-vehicle weapon which might destroy, damage or usually shake a vehicle (if it hit at all)(curse GW switching it from 2 shot to single shot small blast). Anyways, with the new DE, and from the look of the models (nice) there might be a few people wanting to play them, in addition to other open topped vehicles in the game (orks) I might have to look at re-arming some units. Any thoughts? Who else has open-topped vehicles?

Land Speeder storms are open topped. I cant think of much else...although I hear the DE might have a vehicle invul save upgrade. Im looking forward to building them in Gagetown as my wolves are now 95% complete.

I think that the venom cannon is pretty situational unfortunately... on the things you'd bring it on (harpy/fex/tyrant) I think you'd find much better options that would work against all comers... the rupture cannon (if you're bringing a shooty fex why wouldn't you bring a T-Fex???) works on open topped AND traditional tanks! even the dakka-rant or dakka-fex would pretty reliably pop those dark eldar (S6 shots can pop AV10 - but you're not relying on ONE shot to hit - more like 12!)
I'm of the opinion that when you bring the venom cannon, you end up wishing you had something else.... but hey that's just me.... I've never had one actually do anything!!!
(unless you target infantry, but hey we're not short of infantry busting are we???)

Unfortunately this is my opinion of the venom cannon as well. I would much rather take a dakka-fex than a fex armed with a venom cannon. I was curious if there were any different views. I had tried the HVC on the Tyrant but it was a failure.
