From Faeit: "There have been a lot of rumors going on lately about the rumored Horus Heresy Stand alone game that is coming out. Today's rumors have it coming out at the end of May, pushing the Hobbit and LotR to direct only. Please remember that these are rumors. Here is the rumored release and information as it came early last week from hastings natfka.blogspot.com/2015/02/admech-30k-assassins-and-sisters-of.html Horus Heresy Standalone box game, on sale for a few months, then models become part of 30k range - Mark 4 + Cataphract armors featured. Assassins Standalone box game, on sale for a few months, then models become part of the 40k range. via Steve the Warboss on Faeit 212 It's look like may will be a interesting month. I think the best news out of all of that is that they aren't going to be wasting any more store space on Hobbit/LoTR.
Also with a HH standalone game, it might convince me to set aside my painting fears and paint the Primarchs I have here.

I will be all over a HH standalone game. I just hope they leave your Legion choices in it up to you rather than say, Battle of Calth with pre-molded Ultras and Word Bearers (though I suppose I would be fine with Word Bearers). If it just comes with stock plastic Mk.4 suits that would take the Forge World legion shoulders that would be amazing.
Biggest question for me is whether I make a 30k counterpart for Word Bearer army and suck up painting the grey scheme or take a crack at the 20th.

Being able to get 30k in store and not be stuck solely with having to go through FW would be great

Ok, take with plenty of salt, but via BoLS this morning there’s a rumor going around as to the contents of the 30k box set. If this list is true (which I highly doubt) then it’s about $650 US worth of FW kits. Even with GW nabbing them to plastic there wouldn’t be that high a price drop. I’m guessing we’ll see some mixture of the units described, just not in the quantities listed, or it’ll be hideously expensive.
via Voices in the Trees 3-8-2015 Horus Heresy Starter Set 2 sides, Identically Equipped Models are NOT legion marked. Generic Heresy-era models. – Early Heresy mark armor Astartes x20 – Cataphractii Terminators x5 – Contemptor Dreadnought x1 – Praetor x1
However if this is true, then GW just made their sales figures for first quarter as I can't imagine they'll have a single one of these left over even if the rules suck complete ass. Doubling the above forces (supposedly) would make for a sizable marine force any way you slice it and depending on price & contents this may be the one starter set I actually can see myself purchasing.

This is also something I'd seriously consider picking up. The salt content however is too damn high

I would instantly buy at least 1 of these sets, probably 2. That would straight up be like printing money. Got my fingers crossed that this is real, and that the marines are of good quality....I'd probably cry if they were single pose snapfits.

Well, I saw another rumor yesterday confirming the contents, I'm beginning to be hopefully optimistic. The second source had the box set upwards of 130 pounds (~$250) which is the only thing keeping me skeptical. GW has never put out a starter set that expensive in their history (to my knowledge) Hell, the old white "army in a box" deals they had for a long time weren't that much.

A $250 starter set?
well considering their price point has been around the $120-$130 mark for all of their sets in the past few years that would seem a little out of reach for many people to "try" 30K out... which I'm guessing is the point of the starter - hook them in so they have to sell a kidney to forge world to keep up?

Space Hulk was close to the $200 mark and had far less in it. I wouldn't be shocked to see a $2-300 price range for the amount of stuff that it's rumored to have. There's twice as much as the average GW starter per side, and likely far more directed at pulling in established fans of the universe than new people. Horus Heresy doesn't mean much to someone who has just heard of a Space Marine for the first time, but it's like crack for someone who has been following the universe since 2nd or 3rd edition. This feels like the kind of thing that they will happily bet on selling out regardless of price point, and probably be right about it.

thought space hulk was closer to the $130 mark (at least that's what it's selling for now) I'm not going to fall off my chair in surprise if GW charges a ton of money for something, that's kind of their thing after all...lol And I'm sure there's alot of die hard heresy fans that will scoop it up regardless of price (just like there's those of us who habitually start new armies even when we have... a few... ) 25 infantry, a dread and a vehicle aren't exactly super high amounts of mins... if they are doing that PER SIDE and include a mini rulebook, well yeah I can see that having a higher price tag, however Dark Vengence has 49 miniatures + rulebook and is $130... the expansion for chaos is 15 infantry and a land raider for $165... so I guess alot will depend on what type of mins are in the set of course (pushfit or otherwise)and if a rulebook is present.

From Faeit:
"Again we are seeing more in the works of details coming out for the Horus Heresy box set. I for one think that this is sounding like an excellent way to get into the game, and a way to jump into more Forgeworld products down the line. The Horus Heresy releases are just such cool Marine models, and I think that a release like this will make the game much more readily found at the local watering holes.
Please remember that these are rumors. via Steve the Warboss on Faeit 212 In the last Time, there were many speculations of the Box Content. Here are some Informations from my Sources. -2 Generic Legio Astartes Armies -20x Tactical Marines (2 Sprues) -5x Cataphractii Terminators (1 Spure) -1x Contemptor Dreadnought (1 Sprue) -2x Legio Centurions (both with options for Consul options, 2 identical Sprues) -Transfer Sheet with Symbols of 3 Loyal and 3 Traitor Legions -Suppliment includes a summary of the great crusade with important events and timeline -Description of the Legions from the Decal Sheet with small history of them"

Those contents make more sense for an ~$100 box set. Bunch of marines, 2 hq and a dread or termies, points balance in the 5 marines going to the guy with the dread. I’m still cautiously optimistic as another rumor had them compatible with FW’s upgrade kits; a rumor that I’m inclined to believe as I can’t imagine GW putting out all this stuff only to make it incompatible with already existing product that they’re bringing this out to specifically couple up to.

That $160 Chaos expansion, wasn't just 15 infantry, it was 5 terminators, 5 raptors (with night lords options), and 5 cultists. But still one of the better boxed set deals they've offered, because you basically get the raptors for free.
Let's face it. We'll all buy that set if it works out to be better than FW prices (which it will) as well as the ability to get it without shipping (via nexus)
