Hey there... I'm going to be speaking to Mike tonight about a date for the next Warhammer Fantasy tourney (I'll be running one coming up soon)... I want to get the discussion running about a comp system that will work for our tourney (and if it works well for upcoming events as well)... I was considering a system where everyone starts at 10 points, and this is decreased by taking things that are considered "rough" or "over the top"... If you cannot bring a list that scores more than 0 comp, then you can't play. This may discourage some of the more extreme builds.... I was considering the following modifiers to the initial comp... I'd love some feedback as to what you would like to see added to this list (or if you think this is a terrible idea - please let me know that too!) using an armybook that was not updated in 7th ed = +1 comp having a theme and story behind your army (written up) = +1 comp using a level 4 wizard = -1 comp using a special character = -1 comp having a unit (including characters) > 50% of your army total = -1 comp duplicate rares = -1 comp if your highest percentage in your army is NOT core = -1 comp what would you like to see added to this list? ?

no, some armies : tomb kings, ogre kingdoms, wood elves are all still 6th ed armies.... the bonus was for playing one of these armies, which can have serious difficulties competing in 8th... The bonus was for playing an army that did NOT get an update in 7th edition... (which would include DOW or old chaos dwarfs too)
given that at 2400 points everyone takes a lord level character, I didn't think that would necessitate a comp hit... however given how tough magic can be, there should be some form of comp hit (or bonus for those that don't go this path) for bringing big magic...
I'd agree with the ban on spells cast at a 15+.... sounds like a good include....

Following up on Frank's suggestion from last night... looking at a more "positively framed" scale So your list starts off with zero comp score... you then have bonuses added to your list based on what you bring! using an armybook that was NOT updated during 7th edition = +1 comp having a theme and story behind your army (written up) = +1 comp You aren't bringing a level 4 wizard = +1 comp You aren't bringing a lord level character = +1 comp No special character in your list = +1 comp No deathstars (more than 1200 points including character costs in one unit) = +1 comp No duplicate rares = +1 comp Highest percentage of your army is core = +1 comp Less than 10% of your army is magic items = +1 comp ...and I'm open to more recommendations too!

Oooh.....my High Elves are gonna score low!
I think what Scott was referring to was people who would say, bring a LV 4 wizard and still take another Lord choice.
I would suggest something like "no more than 25-30% of army is a magic user". You can still get pretty gross with a big pack of level 2's.
Perhaps some kind of limit on Warmachines as well. 2 stone throwers and 3 cannons is is hard and unpleasant for some armies to fight as a level 4 is.

3 or less warmachines = +1 comp two or less ranged units = +1 comp Less than 25% of the army is a magic user = +1 comp
This total would bring a max comp of 12... and each opponent provides a score of 1-3 comp for a max total of 15 points added to your total for each game...
