First up is Samus, Prince of the Ruinstorm… I’m a bit Meh on the model itself despite it looking like a slight spikier and more up-armored version of the Vermin Lord (which I still really want even though I don’t play fantasy); a model I really appreciate. His rules while experimental will need some calming but surprisingly not too much, the hatred of all infantry is odd and he’d be a tough nut to crack with those 6 x T7 wounds. I9 means he’s going first often and with 6 S7 attacks on the charge would be a pretty good hammer unit but I feel like he’d get stuck in with resilient troops the same as the D-Thirster from Daemonkin. www.forgeworld.co.uk/The_Horus_Heresy/HORUS_HERESY_CHARACTER_SERIES/SAMUS.htmlwww.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/S/Samus.pdfSecondly we’ve got a first look at the Solar Auxilia command. They’re old-school guard, and despite the price tag; really tempted me to get them solely to be able to paint the models. They’re amazing beyond amazing and I could see the entire unit being an AWESOME stand-in for an inquisitor and his retinue as each of the pieces in the command squad have just completely stupid amounts of detail and really interesting dynamic poses. www.forgeworld.co.uk/The_Horus_Heresy/Solar_Auxilia/SOLAR_AUXILIA_TACTICAL_COMMAND.html

Samus is... ummmm okay I guess... he seems rather easy to kill however with only a daemon save to keep him safe. The making blessings harder to cast is situationally useful. The no scatter deep striking if a character died is fluffy i guess, but a 10 point banner does that already and you don't have to have a character die to make use of it. Penalty to enemy reserves is nice. Armorbane is nice. slowly walking around trying to get in combat at 6" a turn? and must deep strike so the earliest possible he is declaring a charge is turn 3 if everything goes absolutely right? (and your opponent doesn't simply move away from him, kill him while he stands there for a turn, etc. etc.)
I think he adds very little to a daemonkin army, as several of his special abilities are useless (warpstorm and instability related) and frankly the D thirster is faster, hits harder, isn't forced to deep strike, can jink, has an armor save, isn't a LOW, and is 100 points cheaper!
plus that model is terrible looking.

Samus isn't someone I'd expected them to bring in from the books. If anything else, it's cool for fluff.

Oh man, that Auxilia command squad commander would be a great model for an Inquisitor.
However, I can not stand those helmets. They look like goofy welding masks and I just can't not see that.
