So the more I read about the dark eldar, the more it seems like they're pretty geared to take out tyranids fairly easily... specifically: splinter weapons - a LOT of shots, wounding on 4+ = quick death to MC fast flying vehicles - pretty difficult for a swarm to catch dark lances - yet another weapon that decimates MC pain tokens - sacrificial gaunts make the DE get feel no pain??? seriously? Now nids tend to struggle (not just around here - look at tourney results of large events) as it is, but how specifically do we face this new threat... ...we can't mech up (which appears to be what other armies are going to do to minimize the effectiveness of high volume of poison attacks)... and catching raiders is going to be very difficult. With the wonderful kick to the groin that the nid FAQ is, spore drop is not very effective generally.... Hive guard will shine, as S8 is going to be very effective vs. open topped AV10... but really, how long will a unit or two last as soon as the DE player realizes that this is the only real threat to just speeding around in circles around the nid forces, blasting away with impunity??? So this is a call out to any thoughts about how our buggy little buddies can take on the dark eldar menace.....

compleatly cover the table with loads of cheep small bugs and only have big bugs with synaps that way there is nowere to move. mark figg kinda did that in are game. use out flank and deepstrike as much as posible also. and try to get first turn ;D. skimmers cant tank shock so if you have a wall of non upgraded steelers infiltrate first turn with a bunch hormaguants right behind it it could work well cuting of there ability to move forward

Eldar tend to rely on their high initiative to strike first because they are so weak that if any blows land on them, they crumple. Tyranids are one of the few armies that can out initiative Eldar. Use that to your advantage. From what I've seen of the DE, they are going to be low on templates as well.

Yeah I'm not sure how DE will play out. They look to be a good dex with some strong and fast attacking ability but are still fragile. Along with hive guard as a strong choice for anti-vehicle shooting against all armies, some combination of swarming gribblies with maybe upgraded hormies (adrenal glands)/raveners/trygons to CC vehicles if necessary, shooting from maybe gargoyles which come with fleshborers (Str4) or devourergaunts (str 4). Plus I will try to fit in at least one biovore (str 4).
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't raiders have 10 armour all around? If so the nid shooting problem is that it is short range and DE have an upgrade I think that reduces your range by 6". That might make shooting very difficult (except biovores and the few things with really long range). However, if the target is within 18" - gargoyles can move 12" - shoot (fleshborers vs that range reducing upgrade (shimmer shields or something reducing the 12" range to 6") and charge the target.
Hormies/raveners/trygons are fast so it might be difficult to avoid them. The problem is what is the range of the DE weapons and how much damage can they do in those first 2 turns when you are trying to get them. Hormagaunts and trygons can only assault a unit now within 13-18" depending on fleet roll. Raveners can assault units 19-24" away. Raveners are definitely staying in my list anyways.
As Trevor said, a mass of units might hamper DE movement and that is what I think I will try with the swarmy mass, although if DE has enough shooting with range they might remove the swarmy danger each turn, open up movement areas and still damage our MCs and other nasties. Will have to see. Shannon. what were you planning to try with your nids and still remain viable against other armies?

DE have nice new models and another wave of models planned and the codex seems to be good (from impressions on forums - haven't read it myself). However, I wonder how many DE lists we will likely see in the foreseeable future. Randy is ready with a DE army already but it will take others some time to buy and build a DE force (although proxy armies might show up to test out the dex).

Hey Mark, what if we just play fully painted Dark Elves? then we won't need to worry for a little bit anyways, not only will they have to buy all those cool units, but they'll have to assemble and paint them too! we should be safe til our next codex.... well the next marine one anyways! lol And to answer your earlier question, I'm going to try out my regular list first... and see how that goes... you?

I noticed you said you will be down on Saturday Shannon...I will check with the misses and see if I might not be able to go down for a game. I'd like a chance to test them against different armies as I try to tweak my army.

The Misses said yes so I should be able to get there for 1sh...depends on how quickly we get the grocery shopping done. The list only has 9 Dark lances in it....plus 2 Disintegrators, 5 Blasters, 5 Blast Pistols and 5 Splinter Cannons and I'm really not sure how many splinter shots all wounding on 4+ ;D

Well good news is our game won't take that long, so you'll have time to get a couple in I'm sure all those bad news guns are only range 18" like mine are though.... and you're BS3 too right? so shouldn't be that bad all things considered....
