Hey so I after a demo 100 pts game I think the overall system is very cool and The freeness of the rules is exceptionally welcome. Right now I think I'm really like the Combined Army as a starter faction, not sure if its a good idea but I like the models and they seem cool.
Any tips or Tricks to starting into the hobby? Starter kits, template sets, etc that are a good buy? In addition is it better to collect towards a target list? or just pick a faction an go?

The general advice I've read is to buy the figures that you like the look of and use those (to prove the point, there was a recent battle report where a guy played a randomly generated list to victory in a match). Aim for at least 8 orders by 200 points and 10 orders by 300 points. Combined Army sounds good, I've never played or seen them but I've read they're quite good and they have some pretty sweet figures as well as probably the strongest TAGs in the game. The stuff I've read seems to show that Shasvastii sectorial isn't very popular and they are supposed to get a remake a couple years down the road (the remake was like pushed back from the next book to the one after that but books don't come out often). Data Sphere is a great resource site for starting out and they have examples of ways you can build out from the starter kit (http://www.data-sphere.net/starting-combined-army/) - though while the Starting articles are useful they aren't at all like the One True Way or anything. It's just if you have no ideas or preferences on how to proceed, they pitch you one. Unlike Warhammer 40k, Infinity isn't what you see is what you get. Some unit profiles don't have models for certain loadouts and some unit profiles haven't been released at all so proxying is very common, even in tournaments. So I recommend proxying a lot (even if you wanna proxy Tau or whatever) to get a feel for how certain units might play before you go out and buy them. Though again, the advice is that if you like how a unit looks you'll have more fun with it so that's a personal decision for list buildin. I followed this advice on building tokens www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZCtHBeHMXo&feature=youtu.be - still have a bunch of the stickers and one inch punch and usually use paper templates but you can find fancier stuff at places like Warsenal warsen.al/collections/markers. As for army lists... uhh, there really aren't many. You'll find people post lots but they will vary pretty wildly because not only does it vary with mission but it also varies from person to person. I would just say don't like go for a 15-20 order list off the get go as that will make for very long games. And just 'cause I like hear myself talk, what lil' I know about Combined Army -Ko Dali, a sweet drop troop (has a burst 5 with her 2 pistols, can raise her wound values with vampiric attack, and has MSV2) -the Sphinx is one of only 2 stealthy TAGs -Avatar is I think the most expensive unit in the game? and for good reason -Charontid is pretty strong -the Umbra Legate has access to a hacking device plus, which has lots of neat tricks and the only other faction that gets it is Nomads -the Combined Army drones look super sweet and drones are generally good in N3

Thanks for the tips. Most lists I've been looking at are some variant that gives me 10-12 orders at 300 pts. I really like the hacker Umbra Legate, seems really solid. Also the drones seem really good. I like the looks of the Dr. Worm and helper to get cheap orders and a medkit on the field.
I really like the models for the Sphinx and Avatar but they are both over 100 pts for a single model.
I think I might just start with some Morat spam, since they get the courage and other good stuff right off the bat.

I'm looking to get into infinity as well. If it's worth it (as in people will play) I plan on building up a Scots army with lots of wolf goodness

I always have wanted to start this game but I can't bring myself to the financial commitment without getting the opportunity to actually play.

A lot of the games I've played is like a lot of proxies, haha, which is fine when things aren't super formal or anything. The rules for the game are provided for free on the company website infinitythegame.com/archive.php

I want to get into infinity as well, I’m digging the lore and the minis look amazing. And it would be a cool counter balance from playing Age of Sigmar which I’m having a lot fun with, get my fantasy wargamming fix with that and my sci fi fix with infinity lol I want to make a pure neoterra bolts list (simply beautiful minis) but can’t make up my mind if I wanna buy the two boxes of bolts or get the operation ice storm box... Also I know the rules are free but I’m a sucker for collecting physical copy’s, only thing is there are two rule books and I don’t know which one to get lol,

Hi Rakketytam. A friend and I taking a break from Warmachine have been out and playing once a week for the past few weeks trying to get some life back into the community.
I will begin posting game day threads on here as well as the FB page. We are looking at a game this Thursday evening. We both show up around 630 and have five factions between the two of us that you can try.
