wow... good move GW... " via Games Workshop www.games-workshop.com/en-US/VedrosIn the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war! In the dying years of the 41st Millennium there is no peace amongst the stars, only brutal warfare and planetary conquest. The Battle for Vedros brings all the action onto your tabletop. You command armies of models in a game of daring, cunning and untold slaughter. The Battle for Vedros Starter Set allows you to fight out battles between the mighty Space Marines and feral Orks. As well as great models for you to build and play with, it includes the tale of the invasion of Vedros and all the rules you need to play. Once you have the Starter Set, you can also expand your collection with the other models and vehicles available (all their rules are in the Starter Set), whilst the Paint Set allows you to individualize your favourite models. You will find all these reinforcements at your local store."

So whats the deal with this. The price point on the leaked kits seems less expensive than normal models yet from the video and demo product the casting looks as good as ever and he kits look simple and well put together.
So is this just cheap Orks and Marines?

Reduced price to get people in probably. I'd say it's a loss leader but let's be honest they won't take a loss on these I'm sure. Lol

They're probably profitable through mass production. They appear to be getting sold to main stream toy stores which means the number they're making is probably huge. I wouldn't be surprised if they're using a third party printing company that will do larger numbers of models for cheaper by using larger molds etc.

They're also just rehashing the old Black Reach box. For all we know a bunch of this is straight unsold stock. Either way they already have molds for these kits, at that point production is super cheap.

yep... all casting of models is done in their own facilities, they changed to that model a LONG time ago.
looks like the push fit versions - so likely as Matt said, the molds from black reach - no design cost... hell they might have a bunch of sprues already done... so the cost is likely low enough to still allow good profits even with the lower price point.
Ether way... good for the hobby... good for GW... everybody wins!!!

Has there been any news of when this starter set may be released?

I would guess fairly soon given they have the webpage and promo stuff all done. I know their "build and play" kits were November 2016... these might coincide with that release... or just before perhaps? all just guessing at this point
