Well I'm still thinking about necrons as my next 40k army... however given their lacklustre performance currently, and having absolutely no idea what's going to stay/go in the next book or what would even be a good purchase now with new models coming out soon(ish) I'm having second thoughts... which got me thinking about other ideas about other armies/conversion opportunities.... So one of the ideas I had was a sister's of battle army... however I extremely dislike some of the sculpts... and pretty much everything's metal... I do like: www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440308a&prodId=prod1090153www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440303a&prodId=prod1090129and www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440303a&prodId=prod1090096but the rest of the range is just so "meh"... and me and converting metal models doesn't really go well together... So does anyone have any ideas on alternative models / ranges to do a sisters of battle army? I certainly don't mind converting if the originals are plastic... but I would be looking at a lot of sisters (with flamers of course), immolators, maybe an exorcist as the centrepiece model. perhaps a penitent engine or two just cause the model looks very cool.... ....oh, and yes I haven't lost the irony of me looking at a witchhunters army...

Well I was going to make a witch hunter army of the fantasy warriors of chaos and just put bolters on them, so thats my idea (but then again I was going to do a chaos version of them)

so space marines with girl heads wouldn't look completely out of scale?
hmmmm
that means a battleforce could give me a rhino to convert to an immolator, a squad of girls, jump packs to convert to seraphim.... (although I was looking at black angel wings)
hmmm.... if I combined space marines with demonettes I could do corrupted sisters? (or combine with chaos space marines)
do you get extra demonette heads in that plastic kit? (would be a waste to just have to buy the kit just to take the heads though I think)

If I recall correctly you may get a few extra heads (to replace the 3 "big hair" heads that are usually used on the command models) but I haven't looked at the sprues in a while.
If you do want to go the Daemonettes route let me know as I think I have enough for 30 (10 assembled and painted on square bases, but as I found with my bloodletters it's easy to switch them to round ones) that I don't see myself using in my 40K daemons list.

I agree with your views on necrons. I also considered them as another army to start but with a new dex coming out (and we have to wait and see what changes GW makes) and new models or new plastics I would wait too. Sisters seems interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a sisters of battle army before so it would be something new for the area (or at least for some of us).
I wonder how many people have Grey Knights in a box that are waiting for a new dex. There are a few in this area that I am aware of that might revive their armies.

I have a closet Grey Knight army that was going to be a "pretty" army more so than a competative one. I managed to get 2 of the Forgeworld Dreadnaughts for a good price and also picked up the Redemeer conversion kit at the last Canada Games Day. I also have 2 Tank Commander models, 2 Landraider Door sets, and some of the Brass Etching. So making a pretty army should be easy...as long as I do a decent job on the painting....which for me means the army will be done in 2025

Well my main idea is to get an Meq army for my next one...
I've narrowed it down to:
1) sisters of battle (not sure if regular sisters or as Tommy suggested stormtrooper/inquisitor) 2) plague marines 3) necrons 4) dark angels
My main choice will probably be decided on what is least likely going to be common in the area... I always like to have something different...
...for me though... having an Meq army is going to be different!

I don't think I recall seeing anyone with Plague Marines in a long time.
Necrons are likely to be popular once the new book comes out.
There are a couple Dark Angels players around.
I don't remember ever seeing anyone actually play a sisters army here

Think I'm going sisters... seems easy enough to convert from marines, given they're both in power armor... immolators are just rhinos with flamers for the most part... basically the jump marines, losing the jump packs and getting black angel wings will be my seraphim.... add in some of the newer stormtroopers, a couple chimera...
so real sisters are going to only be: the living saint character (cool model), maybe that inquisitor on the throne of judgement (also cool model), an exorcist and a couple penitent engines (yeah their as tough as a killakan for a walker... but the model is just too cool not to include)

Interesting. It's always nicer to work with plastics. Maybe whenever sisters get redone they will put out some plastics. I think it is a good choice going sisters. I found Dark Angels curious. There are a few DA players in this area and I don't know much about their codex but it would seem to me to be frustrating to be playing SM but without some of the new stuff, rules or points costs. Of course there may be some old DA codex rules that are better than the vanilla SM ones, and 2 DA players showed up at KingCon and one did very well.
I have wanted to build a SM bike army for some time now so perhaps I will get back to that. Necrons have also always been of interest for me but I will wait to see what the new dex brings. I don't know much about the Inquisition dex but might take a serious look at it when it is released. Shannon, I agree with your criteria of playing an army that is not common in the area. I really liked the idea of Salamanders with the previous SM codex and planned to build a Salamander army but lost interest when the current SM dex was released. Characters defined the chapter traits, Vulkan was great and Salamander armies became very popular.

haven't seen a salamander army actually... they'd be pretty cool with all the flamers and such...
problem is, I have two ideas for two different sisters lists.... could get expensive...!
I've got my starting bundle of marines, so going to try my hand at doing this!

Salamander armies became popular on forums and at tourney lists although I agree that in our area I don't think I saw a Salamander army (painted up) but I think Vulcan was used sometimes for his bonuses. I guess some of the appeal was lost do the the need for Vulcan to be present for Salamanders to be Salamanders (get any different abilities). I much preferred the idea of chapter traits in the older codex where a group of marines could be Salamanders, operate a little differently than other marines without the big cheese being present. That said I do realize that the chapter trait system (make your own chapter and pick traits) had problems but I think it would have been great to refine it further.
