from Faeit - amongst others:
"There were a great number of people in my local circles that consider this game to be one of the best rulesets Games Workshop has put out (with may the Necromunda and Mordheim nostalgia). Here is the latest coming directly out of Nottingham.
Lord of the Rings SBG will return at the end of the year as Middle Eart SBG:
Here is a link to the thread on Dakka www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/685977.page
Manchu via Dakkadakka: News is trickling out of Nottingham about Adam Troke's "state of the game" presentation at Throne of Skulls. It seems like the game may be rebranded as "Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game." One attendee on Facebook posted: Feel gutted for the people who didn't get to come to ToS and hear from Adam Troke. Fantastic stuff he had to say, not sure exactly what we are and aren't aloud to post but needless to say the hobby is safe with Adam and we are getting NEW stuff guaranteed! Another poster has said there was mentioned of reissuing OOP models.
And from another poster: What adam said though is he wants us to email them and tell him what we want to see come back and also what we want new.
Send in photos of our painted models and literally support our Middle Earth hobby! Without the support we have shown this hobby in recent years he literally couldn't have got the energy from GW put back in!
And again: Middle Earth SBG. New stuff and Old stuff to be released! There's your headline from me.
Optio via Dakkadakka: They have a release plan up until 2020.
New stuff will be done the FW way.
There will be a new book by the end of the year and the current sourcebooks are going into printing now
We also got to find out why the Battle of five armies release was so small. New Lines barely gave them anything to work with as they changed everything half way through the production process. The result was GW staff did not find out what most of it was until the film came out. Plus side is the initial projects are to fill the gaps.
Manchu via auf Dakkadakka: More from Facebook: Sourcebooks are being re-printed in three weeks New Sourcebook (Most likely BoFA) is being released by the end of the Calendar year Out of Production models will be released again in Forgeworld Resin Due to the cost of Forgeworld resin, terrain kits will no longer be sold and instead replaced with battle boards (possibly) Dain (Not on Pig) was shown and apparently looks better than anything we have ever seen. No pictures were taken to show us. Adam Troke has is guaranteed to work on Middle Earth SBG for Four Years!! That is Four more years of models released No mention of a new rulebook but there not be an Age of Sigmar type deal. My guess is that it will be Weapons Rules and Monster rules that will get tweaked. Game is said to largely stay the same. New Game will be called Middle Earth SBG The New game will start to go into the Lord of the Rings Appendices and Hobbit Appendices for material after the BoFA is done
More News from more sources!!: 1) A Box Game like the Horus Heresy WILL NOT happen for Lord of the Rings 2) A New starter set will come out for Middle Earth SBG 3) A New Hardback rule book will come out 4) Osgiliath Ruins are coming back. The Laketown Buildings are not
4) New models will come in boxes, not blisters of 3 "

If anybody wants to play, I've got models sitting in my house that haven't seen the light of day since 2010

I know a guy who films LOTR batreps for YouTube.
There are a really dedicated gamers still out there for this one. I'm sure they'll be pumped.

I love the game, it just lacks wide spread support

I played the game as an intro system with my brother-in-law when he lived with us and it was great fun - not the most balanced when big heroes got in from my experience, and at times a little clunky, but it very much worked for that "cinematic" feeling.
I don't have any models kicking around anymore that I know of, but I'd certainly play a game with someone if they had stuff and were interested.
I honestly quite miss the ranked War of the Ring system - it was remarkably good, but got almost no play time anywhere.

I may end up collecting just for the sake of having the models. Even the current range is VERY good looking, and very easy to paint, they pull off just being very simple but high quality. Currently have about 2 dozen elves and 2 dozen men of minas tirith, plus Galadriel and Legolas. Might expand that out to include some of the elf riders (they're really cool) and some armoured warriors. And you're right, big heroes caused big imbalance (Sauron), and some armies were just naturally better and half unstoppable (Easterlings come to mind due to their SUPER heavy armour).

I had High Elves and Easterlings and both model sets were pretty nice - the scale is small and the details aren't great, but they lend themselves well to base/wash/highlight painting cranking them out quick, and with good colour selection look really nice on the table.
The newer Elf cavalry looked really cool though, I agree!
It'd take quite a bit to convince me to ever actually spend money on them again, but it would be nice to see some of it on the table.

Scale was actually made small as part of the deal with new line, small scale means they don't fit with Warhammer Fantasy models (because for a long time you weren't supposed to let them cross over at GW stores)

from war of sigmar:
Howdy Guys and Girls - some informations regarding the future of Middle Earth / Hobbit / LotR:
- They have green light for alteast 4 more years worth of releases - The first big book, 'There and Back Again' will focuse on the Hobbit movies, and includes scenarios for atleast the last two movies, including extended cut scenes. It's bascially a BRB/Campaign-tome, including rules for all Hobbit models. - You will get boni for taking armies from just one faction, similiar to AoS. They want to do smaller sub armies for the different big factions. Think more around warband style. None of the old armies will go away, all old characters/units will get models again. - Release date for the book is scheduled for December.
- They will do the Hobbit Nazgûl (yay!) - First wave of Dain and his dwarfes are finished. We should get the goat cavallry too. - The Lake Town houses are a multi part plastic kit. Gorgeous!
- The re-branding to "Middle Earth SBG" should happen around summer next year. - They want to do more campaign books in the future (similiar to past books like The Fall of the Necromancer). These may focus on book or movie events. (I'm really hoping for a revisiting of the Angmar/Arnor storyline!).

from war of sigmar: - The next months will all about the Iron Hill Dwarfes, Azogs forces for the Bo5A, and the source book for the last 2 hobbit movies, aswell as re-releases. - The Hobbit sourcebook contains scenarios based on the Extended Cut. - It will contain rules for all characters and units found there - even for yet unreleased stuff. - The Dol Guldur Nazgûl will get rules, models and new titles. They are still the same guys as during the war of the ring, but different Incarnations, so they use different titles than the ringwraiths (since the ringwraith appereance was known by people, but the Dol Guldur by other ones, and not many connected them). Witchking and Khamul still have the same name though . They are too awesome^^ - Sometimes next year, the big project will be an new BRB with rules for the whole middle-earth range, including the name rebrand. - After this, they want to focuse on sourcebooks again. They can use everything from the LotR books, the LoTR movies and the hobbit trilogy. No rights on the simarillion sadly, but they are allowed to write their own "lore" (like the Nazgûl names). - Themes they can use for future sourcebooks are f.e.: - The Last Alliance. The hobbit made some cool hints that are based on bigger Silmarillion/Lost Stories lore, so we may even get Thranduils dad getting eaten by dragons there - The War of the Ring from the perspective of Thranduil, Dain and an old Bard. Dol Guldur will get manned again by Saurons forces, and heroes will die - Angmar and Balins Expedition, with models based upon the hobbit movies - Of course these are just examples of stuff they would like to do, nothing is decided yet. regards, Lady Atia

If anyone from Kingston is interested, there is an Ontario league for Hobbit SBG, we have a tournament scene and an active community between Toronto and Ottawa. There are 3 of us who regularly play here in Kingston.
I also put up a poster with my contact information at the Kingston Gaming Nexus if anyone wants to play a game (I can provide all the models if you want to try it out)
Facebook page is: Ontario SBG: Home of the OSBGL - Hobbit LOTR
