quite surprised the malanthrope is only 90 points given he's 10 power... that barbed hierodule ... I might need one of those!

ugggh scratch that... the barbed weapon dropped in strength losing S10 is a BIG deal... it's now the same as the shooting from six hive guard... at a 4+ only to hit... and can't just hide in cover like the hive guard can with venomthrope buff...

Huge points decrease on the hierodule though! Less than a stormsurge now, and pretty potent in combat.

shooting nids seem really "meh" this edition... makes sense I guess because the last several codex updates it has been the only way to run them and they want to return to close combat nids being a thing.
Malanthrope + six hive guard gives you more survivability, the same ranged shooting threat, and the CP from a detachment for less points.
it just kinda sucks that the Barbed is traditionally the anti-knight gunbeast GMC... and now he'd be lucky to wound one (12 shots = 6 hits = 3 wounds before saves - doing d3 if any fail, but barely going to scratch the paint for the most part!)
