Guess it goes to show you can change a game as much as you want, you'll never change the gamers. Spammers gonna spam =/
Obviously it's early as hell in the development of an 8th meta, but I can't help but be disheartened at how quickly it became "scramble to find the most abuseable unit. Abuse it repeatedly."

Ya storm Ravens are in the sweet spot.
Tonnes of shots to help vs tonnes of infantry.
Still early but ya it's strong. Now I do own three storm ravens. Am I going to bring them. Probably not cause in don't want to be that guy.
That said I did make a list with three before I found out about how good they can be.

I'm not really too surprised here. The nice thing is that the Meta seems to have developed its top dog. Now comes the process of Anti- meta lists. When you get a list where every one goes flyers to be on the top tables, the anti-flyer lists will start to show up more.
Picturing some las cannon devs in cover, forcing the flyers to move forward and then some assault squads like death company waiting to drop and charge after the flyers. Or a list like 120 Necron warriors with warriors and some crypteks to keep them coming back. sure hitting on 4s vs them needing 5's to wound but that lot of models to move off the table while they return and are damaging your army.
Obviously a wait and see but lets not be shocked when storm ravens get an extra 50-100 pts added to their cost in a couple months.

I'm not familiar with the new imperial books, I'm assuming that top list took 4 single acolytes as under strength units?

no you can take them as a single model unit. they are units of 1 to 6
Edit: now if it was before the errata, they would have 3 wounds each.

Curious article on BoLS re. using flamer weapons to knock down flyers. Don't have my rule book at work so I can't speak to the validity of the tactic.

They would hit automatically. But flamer weapons have random number of shots.
And I'm unsure if there are some stong enough to wound reliably.
Edit. Also very short range.

Flyer spam? Just bring an Acheron; 14” move then…
18” // Heavy 2D6 // S7 // AP-2 // 3 Damage per wound
A bit overkill, but then again, so is flyer spam!

Most people don't have access to forgeworld knights though...
I can see multiple flame weapons being useful in some circumstances, but unless you have multiple wound weapons it's hard to knock out multiple ravens.
A lot of advice I've seen online says to target the smaller, easily killed gunships first instead. Knock down the firepower early to start getting a shot advantage, and thinning out the numbers so they can't grab enough objectives.
Now a couple of ravens being used as transports for highly dangerous CC units like death company (looking at you Tom) I think is actually FAR more dangerous than the extreme "I just fly around shooting you" units. Their ability to safely transport dangerous units AND be hard to kill with lots of firepower is their real worth.

Ya again, I think we are still in the formation of the meta, but as you can tell a lot of people have good ideas on how to deal with flyer heavy meta. You just need to hit that point where going anti- flyers will win you more games than it will lose you at the big tournaments.

I think the hover is what is letting flyer spam be so good. you can either castle and wait OR advance really quickly. I guess one of the big issues with the flyer spam lists is SPACE MARINE flyers. in this case the flyers can either hide on their table edge more than 32" away from the knight then boost in a nuke it in one turn OR stay in hover model and draw the knight out, at least that is my understanding of how these lists are being played.
