TLDR: We should have a Kingston Blood bowl league. I have a lot of ideas and some friends with experience running a league in Winnipeg that can help us with the logistics and some issues. Let's make this happen.
Hello,
I was looking to see if Kingston had a blood bowl league and it did seem that there is. There was a thread posted here back in 2014 seeing if there was enough interest for a league, however it never went anywhere. Now with the re-release of the game and the new support I was wondering if people would be more interested. Below I will out line some suggestions I have for a possible league. I have friends back in Winnipeg who have run a successful league for a few years now from which I can draw some lessons learned.
The hardest part of running a league is maintaining the stats and keeping everyone honest with them. In order to easily achieve this end the league would be managed using the Online Blood Bowl League Manager (OBBLM). This manager allows all the coaches in the league to create a team on the website and print off their rosters before every game. It also allows game sheets to be submitted, star player points to be tracked and skills to be added. Additionally, it can track things like top scorers, we can leave game reports(stories) and news can be added to flesh of the league and provide some depth beyond just a series of games.
Game scheduling is also a challenge faced by most. For this reason I propose that for each game that needs to be played coaches will have a 2 week period in which to schedule and play said game. ie: The league starts on the 1st of January, you will have until the 15th to play one game. If everyone finished their games and reports them prior to this dead line we can agree to move on to the following round. However, there will be no pressure to get your games done ahead of time. The idea is to provide people with enough time to fit a game into their busy lives and to enjoy the league.
Along the lines of game scheduling I also propose the following rules on forfeits. Coaches will have half an hour from the agreed upon game time to show up or else they forfeit. This is not an automatic thing however. It is to the discretion of the other coach as to whether or not they take the forfeit or play the game. (Their are advantages and disadvantages either way). This allows people to not have to sit at the store for hours waiting for their opponents to show up. If your game is scheduled of 1630 and by 1700 your opponent hasn't shown up you can go home. Obviously, if both players are in contact and something came up or extenuating circumstances this rule can be bend as required.
As for painting. We can try this simple idea. Models must be built and primed for the first game. Progress should be shown on the models throughout the league and the models have to be table top standard (3 colours and based) by the championship. Teams can be the new official team models or converted models as long as there is a clear distinction between different players on the pitch.
League composition and number of games will be determined base on the level of interest and the number of coaches signed up.
Finally, for some house keeping. OBBLM will be of an incredible benefit to the league. (see this example from the Winnipeg league to see what I have in mind.) However, we will have to host the site. I do not have the hardware to host a website from home. However, for 5$ a month we can host it on a VPN and the system comes pre-installed on the website. (See OBBLM) Or if someone interested does have the capability to host a site we can host it for free.
With that in mind I propose a 10$ entrance fee to the league to cover the cost of the server as well as a prize for the league championships. This price is just a proposition and is be no means a fixed thing.
I am open to suggestions and and really hoping to be able to make this happen. I'm looking to start it around mid January when everyone is back from the holidays. Let me know what you all think.
