New Tables have arrived at Nexus (played on one on Saturday) so we're all set to be able to accommodate a full 40 players.
It's nice because they're a bit bigger than the 4' width, so it gives a lip for each side where you can actually place your models, rules etc.

18 days left til early bird deadline! get registered and get me your list as soon as you can! Please confirm if you're on the unconfirmed list but you've paid that this is corrected through Nexus (we've had one case of that happening) Their website runs all of this - so I can't change it for you! 13 spots remain go here to get one of those spots: kingstonnexus.ca/events/warhammer-40k-2018-club-championships/

10 spots remaining... ...I know the list says 31 signed up on the nexus site, however Connor managed to get himself on twice and there's two invisible people... which occurred when Jordan signed up... so maybe we could get you know, some names or something for your friends there Jordan? (yes I can guess pretty easily but....)

As the player pack is posted, you may have noticed that the ascending smite "nerf" is not in there. (casting value of smite going up by one for each progressive casting) The reason for this is that it is a beta rule and not an actual rule as of yet. We're going with main rulebook, chapter approved and FAQ's. I realized this just sort of slid past my notice without really sinking in, but when I was down at Nexus playing yesterday a few people said "Shannon said we're going to use the updated Smite and Character rules for the tourney" and seemed surprised when I pointed out that the board said we're not. Not sure if wires might have got crossed one Saturday or something, but I wanted to point out that the impression is out there with at least some number of players that we're going to be using them. If I'm honest I feel like I had that impression at one point as well. While I'm on the topic, what was the reasoning behind not using them, out of curiosity? LVO and Adepticon are going to, and they seem to have received sweeping praise from anyone I've heard talking about them. I don't want to spoil anyone's army, but at the same time if their army is "a bunch of Primaris Psykers with Culexus Assassins not letting you target them" maybe I want to spoil their army. Just a little.

I think they're a positive addition, though the characters not blocking characters does mess up my commanders a bit.

Just a little. You won't have the last issue cause the character not blocking character update IS there. It was a instated rule but the Smite was still in beta. I do agree that even in beta the rule feels pretty good but I think its fair to say only using published "offical" is an decent way to go to make sure every one is on the same page

The "updated" smite rules have been stated by GW as a "beta test rule" therefore they are likely to occur in the future... if they remain as is... we'll see.
I've been using them on Saturdays (when I'm playing an army where it will hurt me to do so), telling people basically that we should get used to it as it's likely to occur.
However to be completely fair... it's not likely to be in place until Chapter Approved 2018 - so next December?
The Character rules were specified in Chapter Approved. So yeah, we're using those. And all FAQ's. If they errata in the smite rule in an FAQ we'll use it as then it becomes official.
----------------
Now saying that... if in the next VERY short time frame (before early bird closes) people feel strongly about the beta smite rules being part of champs... then they need to say so on this thread. I say on this thread, because then it's there for everyone to view/comment/discuss. A random Saturday or the Facebook chat only covers a small percentage of the people who attend club champs and I'm not changing anything without everyone being fully aware.
-------------------
EDIT - Thanks Jordan - I assumed it was Alissa and Jack... but wanted to make sure they got officially on the list!

The beta character rule was something to the effect that Characters with under 10 wounds can't block other sub 10 wound characters. I don't believe that was in Chapter Approved.
I am in favor of implementing both.

I am in favor of implementing both. I was under the impression that the character blocking rules WAS in the FAQ and under it they had Beta test smite rule. If I am mistaken and neither was in the "offical" FAQ documents I'd assume that it should be use both or use neither as they were from the same source page. We are 16 days out from deadline so this seems like an issue that should be resolved by tomorrow (12th) at the lastezt to give 15 days to tweek early bird lists. I do feel like nexus as a whole probably wont see insanely spammy smite lists cause of the scenarios but you never know.

Honestly it's not the Nexus regulars I'm concerned about. We've had a bit of a history of being caught off guard by nasty out of town lists in the past, and I'm a bit worried some might see it as a last hurrah for tricksy Smite spam stuff.
I'm definitely against implementing local comp or house rules, but this one seems to be pretty universally accepted that I can tell.

To be completely fair - smite spam was largely dealt with by tripling the point cost of the malefic lord and the huge brimstone nerf this weekend's daemon release brings. If I'm missing another smite spam source let me know. Most armies can only manage 2-4 smites at most with the exception of grey knights who can only do 1 wound with them. (or brim-spam which also now only does 1 wound)
the beta-rule makes Tzeetch Daemons even more hurt (as they cannot even use the powers of horrors after the first smite). I'm not entirely sure what list we're worried about here.
The beta rule seems like a reaction to complaints from about 3-4 months ago... which were corrected by other means.
