T5 and 6 wounds? Damn son, eating those space Wheaties like a boss. He'll likely have an invul as well, making him almost as tough as Typhus/Lord of Contagion in a fight.

The statlines are hilariously close to a Tau commander, with a couple of small differences.
8 3 2 5 5 6 4 9 3+ Tau
6 2 2 5 5 6 5 9 2+ custode
4 2 2 4 5 6 4 9 2+/4++/5+DR Contagion
The wargear and special rules are what is going to make or break these guys.

What I'm wondering is how the Custodes will play as a faction. Because presumably they are going to be a small army with each model being high performance but very costly in terms of points like the Grey Knights.
But the GK get around this by being able to deep strike/warp jump right into your face without having to wade through the torrent of ranged fire beforehand.
The Custudes from what I know, don't have those options available.

Well we know what their baseline troop is, the custodian guard... as they're in the index
S/T 5, three wounds and attacks and a 2+ save with option of storm shields melee weapons thus far are S6 -3 AP and D3 damage and hit on 2's... so yeah they are no slouches in combat.
also you know... 40 points a model before gear....cheapest option is 49... you want a banner dude he's 70
so this is going to be a very low model count, even by grey knight standards. The Custodes so far have been melee only (shooting is pretty much bolter equivalent)... I expect other options will flush them out of course... but the basic guys are expensive and super tough.

Their land raiders are pretty sweet. BS2 with a 5+ invul and a 6+ FNP.

Ah, never looked through the Imperial Index. Good to know. Sounds like you need to treat them like Deathguard only tougher. Bring the S5 high AP weapons and/or lots of mortal wound causing abilities.

www.warhammer-community.com/2018/01/16/adeptus-custodes-preview-part-2-troopsgw-homepage-post-2/More News! Main points: -Aegis of the Emperor now gives a 6+ against wounds caused by Psychic stuff. -Minimum of 4+ invul for all troops and bikes in a pure custodian detachment -BS2+ for standard Custodes -+1 to wound with Guardian Spear stratagem The last one is gonna be big. Combine a squad of spear dudes with that HQ that allows re-rolls of one for hitting and wounding, you have a squad that is gonna RIP through just about anything T5 or less, and put some major hurt on anything else. Average damage to a Knight from a squad of 5 with spears is now 18.9 wounds, before the named HQ gets to swing. 15 to a Land Raider.

geez that spear stratagem is rough...
...five guys taking on a knight worth double the points and crippling it seems like some pretty bad design... I hope it's not really that bad on the table...lol

The thing is, that if that knight gets a round or two of shooting with its battle cannon, all it takes are a few lucky shots to really neuter that squad. The knight can also walk away pretty damn fast compared to foot slogging custodes.

I agree with Lukas, drop a double avenger on the table and watch it dance away while mulching a few guys a turn. It's the mobility of the knights that'd keep them safe as it's not like the custodes can just camp objectives, a pure force of them won't have the numbers to camp anything, they've got to be all-out at their opponents trying to whittle them down before they lose too many models from each squad to the point of being ineffective.

Also things like Tankbusta seem really good here. 24" range on S8 -2AP 3D per hit..for 17pts. so you can get 3-5 per model.

Yup. I think the Custodes will be tough cookies, but not the be all and end all of competitive unkillable-ness. Guard artillery, psychic and stratagem mortal wounds, other faction's increased mobility, and craaaaazy low model counts will be an uphill battle for the boys in gold.
That said, I think I've found my new army. Something completely different than mine, and hopefully a rewarding one to play/paint. My issue with my burgeoning marine army was that in every build, I just wanted to shoot more, which I already have covered with T'au. These guys look like they will fit the bill.

Well apparently they can deep strike. So there's that.
But yes, in 8th absolutely NOTHING is unkillable.
I'm not really sure the Custodes will hold a candle to guard, as they have the tools to deal with anything and the numbers to play the horde vs. elite game (which generally doesn't go so well for the elite units who tend to kill only one cheap body at a time regardless of AP or multiple damage)
