Danny and I are going.
20$ entry, Everyone gets some kind of prize, not using new points values, or the newest beta rules (not sure on the old one, but they are less game changing)
No painting requirement, no paint scoring, so that's a bummer for me, but W/E.
If you would like to come let, let me know ASAP.

How were the War Showers? You'd think we'd be showered with battle reports by now?

How were the War Showers? You'd think we'd be showered with battle reports by now? At least sprinkled... I dunno, I feel a bit left out in in the rain by this lacklustre tournament coverage. Maybe if we give Lukas and Danny a torrent of requests they'll find time to write something up.

Should have been there for all the excitment!
But "one" thing that felt strange was playing with no beta rules. Not even Novembers beta rules for smites. Which I didnt realize till the last round when i was playing against 5 flyrants.

It was so beautiful today that I took a day off and worked outside all day. I'll do a bit of a recap tomorrow when I'm stuck inside at work.
Still outside now! Just hanging by the fire.

Alright, as promised.
the event was at Addictive Hobbies and Games, which is in a strange building called the Simcoe Mini Mall. It's really just a pretty standard street-side building with 17 different vendors set up in a market-style layout. The hobby store takes up the back 5th of the building, about 175 sq ft. For the limited amount of room, they have a decent selection (not nexus by a mile), and 15% off GW prices, so that's nice.
The area we were in was a loft-like space upstairs, which I think the vendors below can book times for. It looks like it's mostly used as a hobby space. It has no windows and looks like my late grandmother's basement. That being said, it was a great gaming space. The basement feel may have actually added to the atmosphere. I doubt its very comfortable in the summer though!
Terrain wise, most of the tables were pretty decent. Some unpainted terrain, but Will (the TO) looks like he's hard at work developing the community and getting things ship shape.
Meta wise, they are pretty casual. I brought a list that was.... not super casual. I ended up apologizing to my opponents on most occasions. I think people in kingston may have been able to handle this list, but at this tourny it cut through the opponent's lists like butter. I also went first all three times (1 seize and 2 naturals) all while never having the +1, so luck was on my side. I'm sure my last opponent could have put some hurt on with his double Jormungdr t-fex's + malanthrope if he had gone first, but I ended up killing both before they could ever shoot.
I had mistakenly assumed that Oshawa's proximity to Toronto would have meant some pretty nasty lists.
Prize support was ok, especially with only a $20 entrance fee and 12 players. Everyone got a loot bag with a neat tape measure, some paint, some dice and pins, probably a $12-$15 value. Then first place got a $40 gift certificate, and 2nd/3rd got $20 certificates. Danny tied for 3rd so he and his opponent split the prize. For the low amount of players, I don't know how successful a draw prize system would be. I ended up getting two pots of Astrogranite Debris for my bases, a medium base brush (one of my favorites) and 3 Primaris Psykers, 'cause the look cool and constipated.

big meanie... but thanks for the run down!
I'd be interested to see what else was in the double tfex+mal list... as I use those a LOT with my nids and love them.. never had them both die before they could shoot before - that's generally a pretty tall order to kill 28 T8 2+ save wounds with -1 to hit!

The double t-fexs with rupture cannons Malanthrope warlord with ignore cover warlord trait 10 screening gaunts which actually did do some screening 3 groups of 3 rippers 4 dakka fexs with advanced senses and -1 to hit, the 24 shots each variant 2 dakka flyrants Mawloc with 30 devilguants coming up in a tunnel nuerothrope
My list
Bork'An sept battalion ColdFusion commander Fireblade 3x5 firewarriors Tigershark Fighter Bomber
Outrider Coldstar with 3 burst cannons and counterfire defence systems 2x5 man pathfinder units Y'vahra
Outrider Commander with 4x cyclic ion blasters 4x shield drones 5X shield drones Y'vahra
So yah, 2 Y'vahras. They did mean things. I coupled them with the stim injectors stratagem to keep them running at full efficiency. To take down the two T-fexs, I gave up the burst cannon commander's shooting and used the command and control node stratagem to re-roll wounds on one, and then the second y'vahra and the fusionmander got the 2nd. Devilgaunts killed a y'vahra with the double shoot stratagem, which was cool. 180 dice, wooo! He used the app, thank goodness.

ah rupture cannons... that's the problem...lol.. tried that myself a couple times... it tends to not work out great...
plus should have been kronos for the reroll 1's if you're going that route...but still I don't think it could handle double Y'vahra triple commander!
hitting on 4+, wounding on 3+ then the suit gets an invul save... not liking those odds to punch one out.
