With the new codex at the store for preview I figure it's okay to post lists now- hoping I can wrangle someone into letting me play test some of the stuff against them before buying the minis so I can have an idea of what units I enjoy and which I don't. Anyways, here's the 1850 list I want to test out first : Grand Master (Rad grenades, 2 Servoskulls) Vindicare assassin 10 man Purifier Squad (4 Psycannons, 5 halberds, 1 MC hammer) + rhino 5 man GKSS (Psycannon) + Razorback (TLLAS) 10 man GKSS (2 Psycannons, 1 hammer) 10 man GKSS (2 Psycannons, 1 hammer) + Rhino Rifleman Dread (Psybolt ammo) Rifleman Dread (Psybolt ammo) Dreadknight (Teleporter) Overall it seems relatively able to fight most list types out there at the moment and doesn't seem too overly weighted in one area or the other. Good shooting and assault to go around, plus some random fun with the Grand Strategy rules. If anyone's up to letting me play test this with them, lemme know. (Will be hoping to this saturday, if possible.) Edit: If this is bad form and you don't want me posting this stuff on here before the official codex release Shannon, just lemme know and I'll remove it.

no problem posting this... just so long as individual point costs aren't listed!
can't comment on your list though given I haven't looked at the new book yet!

Okay, cool. I left the points cost out to make sure I covered my bases, hehe.
Well, to have an idea of it- I have no terminators in the list at all. The sniper assassin, Psybolt ammo increases the str on certain bolter weapons (autocannons, bolters, stormbolters, assault cannons, such things) so the rifleman dreads are str 8 TL autocannons. Purifiers are the elite CC unit, and GKSS are the average grey knights.

Update, gonna swap the list around a bit for some more testing. 2 PA boxes and Dreadknight purchased! Picking up a box of Termies today then biding my time for more PA boxes to come in, hehe. Here's the new setup I'm gonna test, ultimately dropped the Vindicare for some upgrades and dropped the Razorback squad for a 5 man Termi squad. Grand Master (Rad Grenades, Psychostroke Grenades, 1 Servoskull) 10 man Purifier Squad (4 Psycannons, 5 Halberds, 1 MC Hammer) + Rhino 5 GKTDA (Psycannon, Psybolt ammo, 3 Halberds, 1 Hammer, 1 Sword) 10 GKSS (2 Psycannons, 1 Hammer, psybolt ammo) + Rhino 10 GKSS (2 Psycannons, 1 Hammer, psybolt ammo) + Rhino Rifleman Dread (Psybolt ammo) Rifleman Dread (psybolt ammo) Dreadknight (Teleporter) 1850 Balanced 42 models 11 kp PGK I think this will end up being a bit more intimidating overall, the psybolt ammo on everything means the only shooting under STR 5 I have in the list is the Grand master and the rhinos. The Vindicare seems like he'd be -really- handy at picking out ICs but he felt too fragile to me and too easy to get rid of. If it feels like my AT is on the low side vs AV 14 then I'll add him back in, but as is I think this will perform better for the most part as an all comers style list. Psychostroke grenades are very neat as well though random. But that extra bit of randomness will make people think twice before charging my Termi squad with their big CC unit (and instead shoot small arms fire at them? )

Well you should certainly give my nids a run for their money... be an interesting game for sure.... would be totally into giving this a playtest with you to see how it runs... well after this weekend though because of the Trenton mangled metal tourney....

Yeah, for sure. Maybe some random day we both happen to be there, or if there's time on the 9th (since most of the day will be terrain fix up day, etc) we could throw down. I'd likely have at least some of my Grey Knights assembled by then. Going to be painting the arms / torsos separately so it's going to be annoying, though having finally decided with my color scheme I'm optimistic.

Yeah one of the things that sped up my painting considerably (especially 40k models) was learning to paint torsos and limbs separately.... SO much less frustration... and far quicker when you can reach everything with the brush!

Yeah, I finally decided to make sure I do it this way to avoid any of the difficulties with posing. =\ Now debating whether or not to magnetize as well, though honestly I don't see myself really wanting to change weapon options all that often since getting the special weapons on the regular Grey Knights is kinda bleh (more expensive for them then termis and purifiers, and they are more of a fire support unit like Tactical marines)

Alas, such is the fickle nature of man and his never ending search for the perfect 40k list for himself with a new codex. Looking for a mix of lore that I enjoy and balance on the table top, the Black Library has given me yet another problem entirely. Reading and listening to more of the Horus Heresy era stuff has made me say screw it and go with a more lore setup, regardless if counts as special characters are used. (Given they're incredibly expensive too. :x )
So here we go with the list I'm pretty determined to try next for the sake of a fun list that will hopefully be competitive.
HQ Garviel Loken (Counts as, using Draigo's rules) 275
Elite 7 Purifier Squad (2 Psycannons, 4 Halberds, 1 Hammer) + Rhino 241
Troops 10 GKSS (2 Psycannons, 1 Hammer) + Rhino 270 10 GKSS (2 Psycannons, 1 Hammer) + Rhino 270 5 Paladins (2 Psycannons, 3 Halberds, 1 Hammer, 1 Sword) 315
Fast Attack Stormraven Gunship (TLMM, TLASC) 205
Heavy Support Rifleman Dreadnought (Psybolt ammo) 135 Rifleman Dreadnought (Psybolt ammo) 135
1846 points 39 models 11 kp Now the problem I'm running into is whether or not the Stormraven is really worth the points as a transport for the paladins / Loken. So I'm going to be looking at testing this list, as well as a version dropping the Stormraven for a Dreadknight (with teleporter) to see which is more useful and if Deep striking / foot slogging the Paladins would be doable. Point being is they are 2 wound terminators, and my HQ is an eternal warrior with a Storm shield, so I can use him to eat some Melta / Las shots while on the walk without fear of him dying.
Yeah, I know I've been posting a lot of stuff... but after trying out the regular troop terminators, I really don't see them working all that super well with their 5+ invul save and 1 wound. It makes for some messy happenings when rended / shot with plasma. So perhaps the extra wound will help balance it out. Ultimately I'm getting 5 extra wounds in the squad for 90 points (slightly more then the cost of 2 terminators).

nice. im also always working on lists in my head all day, or dnd characters but thats a different story lol. I dont know were you would find the points in this list but when i do paladins i always put them with the apaothicary cause the only thing better then 2 wound termies is FNP 2 wound termies lol

I also think you should do some wound allocation abuse with them, like give 1 a master crafted stormbolter, another a MC force weapon, another both MS SB and FW, etc.... that be really mean, also a ward staff on the apothecary

Yeah, ultimately I'm losing out on 1 extra for wound allocation, but am 1 point shy of being able to do that : Paladin 1 - Psycannon w/ Sword Paladin 2 - Psycannon w/ Halberd Paladin 3 - SB w/ Halberd Paladin 4 - SB w/ Halberd Paladin 5 - SB w/ Hammer That's one thing that annoys me about Purifier squads who aren't 10 models, they're such an uneven points amount. And with regards to the apothecary, I intend to add one if I ever take the squad over 5 models. At 5 models the extra 75 points just doesn't seem worth it to me.
