My brother plays orcs and I play the guard and EVERY time that we play a game I always end up getting a butt kicking. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on tacking out orcs with the guard. Thanks.

If he's playing green tide orks, I'd say load up on some templates.... If possible, stay in mech, and make sure you move at least somewhat each turn, which will make it rather difficult to open up your tanks if they're relying on close combat to do it. Green tide also takes up the majority of a player's deployment, so if you use a refused flank tactic, it will delay half the ork player's army as they have to try and cross much more of the board. Make sure to bubble-wrap your more crucial units (normally your mech) with guardsmen to further delay the close combat and keep the firing happening... All this is what kills my orks anyways!

What Shannon said is pretty key. Make sure you don't give him the ability to charge multiple units at once, or make an assault move against something simple if you can avoid it. Remember that even if the Orks can't reliably hurt something, they can still assault it to get an extra 6" of movement. Laying out a couple of spread out squads in front of your main lines (bubble wrapping) will mean he can hit and wipe out 10 guys, then be left standing right in front of your guns.
Loading up on templates is also key. Cheap mortar squads are devastating, and any of the HS choices with a large blast also slaughter Orks. Cluster your deployment in a corner and focus your fire always at the closest Ork unit, wipe it out completely and then move on. The only time you should spread out your fire against a Tide is if you need to remove a troublesome unit of Lootas in the back rank or else hit a Dread or somesuch that you can't hurt in CC.

So what you are saying is to get mortars, chimeras, hellhounds and a abundance of guardsman.

Basically, yeah. Hellhounds will certainly do a number on them. Any Leman Russ, Basilisk or Manticore will make a mess of them as well.

Hey, I am a Green Tide player and templates are the devil...particularly flamers (NO COVER SAVES) which includes Mech Focefield devices. Chimeras w/ flamers, Hellhounds...all gross. Remember, if you have Stormtoopers you can kit them out with flamers.
The bonus of putting your stuff in Chimeras...If the orc player makes them go boom, he often roasts as many of his guys as he does yours.

Also remember that they are only str 3 when not charging which means counter assualt units like say 6 ogyrns will wipe a whole unit of 30 eventually.. thats 25 str 6 attacks and hes wounding you on 6's back, also don't forget sentnils.. if a nob dies or he dosnt put a power claw in the unit for point reasons charge in with a sentnil and squash a couple a turn while being immune to his attacks holding up a huge unit wiht one little mech is pretty funny...

If he likes to run a giant unit of nobz, you know, 10 of them with a warboss, a painboy, that kills everything, take a psycher battle squad. Just instant death 3 of them, then use weaken resolve and watch them run off the table, escorting them with a valkarie if necessary, or just cast it every turn. The best use for a platoon command squad in my opinion is to give them 4 flamers, or 3 and a heavy flamer, and scout them up in a valk/vendetta to roast a unit. Do you have a manticore rocket launcher? You should see what happens when you fire 3 shots as ordange barrage in the middle of their lines.
