they're pale, they're mean, they have pointy teeth, yes your friendly neighborhood vampire lord has amassed an enormous legion of substandard troops and some very cool elites, in order to bust face on the table....
So you know the linchpin to stopping this horde of undead is to kill the big bad vamp (as the non-vampire parts of the army begins to crumble afterwards) so how do you do it?
Generally vamp lords come in two varieties... combat machine, and bunker lord.
The combat vamp is no slouch at casting either, boasting normally three levels of magic on his own, along with a mounted 1+ AS, and likely a ward save as well... oh and he can get rerolling attacks every round and in case he's sick of having whiffle lance he can get one that auto hits.... oh and he can take a power that when he does sneak a wound in (with all those autohitting or rerolling S7 attacks on the charge) he gets another attack... oh and if he's using the dreadlance those ones auto hit too.... did I mention he's usually riding around with some uber tough knight friends too?
The bunker vamp must be a tad easier to crack open that this guy right? well a level four vampire who knows all the spells of a lore, and gets two extra power dice with a power... okay that's a pretty rough caster... now surround him with undead to the front, behind and both sides, and you have a bunker vamp... that's right, you can't touch him because you can't get in contact with him... and while you're grinding away at his unbreakable troops which he just raises back to life.... he remains safe and sound...
So after all that... what do you do about taking him (or her) out??? the battle is as good as won if the vamp lord bites it so what tactics have you used to ensure his demise... again....
(oh and Frank, just letting me miscast and blow up turn one doesn't count! )
