It will be interesting to see how things shake out in then end. Most companies have a hard time chasing stuff in China. Also the article does seem to indicated that MOST of the recasting is FW, which is on them when they raise prices 20% or more on their models.

With FW's choice to increase their price markedly across the world save for the UK, the fact that CCON has shut down, at least under their current name, will make little difference.
I haven't touched recasts since I started making enough money to survive - the whole support the content creator approach, but with that blanket cash grab I took a gander to see what was going on in the recast market, and in the 3-4 years since I had last looked, there were now a half dozen apparently FW quality or better people readily available, plus a veritable legion of other even cheaper knockoffs.
GW's "reform" into "New GW" with 8th has really seen a fantastic resurgence in the hobby, and that means there is more interest with FW's offerings, but FW has seemingly reformed into "Old GW" with flagrant cash grabs, completely opaque communication, loss of most rules support and otherwise being very consumer-hostile. I don't think it's any surprise recasters are doing quite well for themselves, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

well said... Forge World sadly is not able to compete with the knock offs even in quality controls and customer service... the two things you actually are at times willing to pay for with a premium product.

I'm not really in-tune with the FW market these days, so I'll take what you guys are saying at face value. I haven't bought anything from FW since 2012-13ish?
Through the few times I've looked at what's available on there the prices do seem insane.

I'm not really in-tune with the FW market these days, so I'll take what you guys are saying at face value. I haven't bought anything from FW since 2012-13ish? Through the few times I've looked at what's available on there the prices do seem insane. The big scandal is they recently, i.e. within 2ish months (the army destroys my sense of time, so this may not be accurate) decided to offer the option to buy FW products in your local currency, and for those of us in NA, would be stocking FW in the US to reduce shipping times, and for Americans, remove any risk of import fees. The free shipping thresholds were also adjusted so it's $150 rather than 250 pounds, but anything less than that is $27, rather than the old percentage system. The kicker is they threw in a 5-70% price increase in those conversions, roughly matching the existing GW "You don't live in the UK or America Tax" but applied much more inconsistently, where some models have seen almost no change, where others are pushing 70-100% price increases. For Canadians, you're also still dealing with customs, where the CBSA is mandated to apply duties on anything over $5 - the only reason they don't do that is they're seriously undermanned to perform that mandate, so they only do it when it's easy or sufficiently worthwhile to assess. Basically, everyone kind of got screwed on prices while FW was saying "this is great for you!" The dishonesty of their marketing really added some salt to the wound.

And that's why re-casters have had and will always have a market.
