So now that GSC is lined up for pre-order, does that mean that all existing armies are now onto a Codex?
I know we have beta rules for Sisters of Battle, and I have heard speculation that March might be when people should be looking for the codex.
So what will happen to the Index options and where will GW go from here? Obviously this is speculation unless I have missed a major announcement from GW but what are peoples thoughts?
1. Will the Index finally be pulled and removed from the game or will they just hang out as "bonus content"
2. Will White Dwarf keep pushing out 2-3 paper successor chapters rules to bring flavor , or will we start to see more division of codex into smaller more tailored factions ex Ynarri will get their own codex, World eaters will get a Codex, Farsight will get a Codex?
3. Will they start the cycle again, printing the 2.0 version of each codex to include things like beta bolter ruins and adjust non point based things/rules?
4. Is this the rise of Formations and campaign books like we saw in 7th, and have now got a taste of with Vigillus.
What do people think, and what do people hope for?

I think. Story driven. You’ll likely see more campaign s like Vigillus, hell Vigillus book two comes out in 3 weeks. And probably see the rise of another Primarch. And then recycle all the codexs starting with Space Marines.

I honestly prefer option 3.
Sure the indexes will just hang out, as they have options removed in the codexes, and that's good. I'm not a fan of having official rules come out in white dwarf, there is already so many official rules sources there really needs to be some kind of limit. I'm the type of player who used to gain their strength from knowing everything about every army, and while I don't devote that kind of time anymore, this just makes it even more difficult to keep up with what is already a rapidly evolving game.
Also 4 can suck it, they failed at it before and now I just don't trust them to get it right.

I agree with Justin on #4; formations broke 7th ed; 8th has regain a good semblance of balance (for the most part), and I feel like making formations again will just devolve 40k into the pain we all remember.
I will say, that as shitty as it’d be to buy a few codices again, I’m getting to the point of almost printing stickers to put into my books so I have all the point costs right there, not strewn across 3 different books.

It's been said a thousand times, but they really, REALLY just need to move to app based. Push the most up-to-date rules to all your devices as soon as they're released. All your source material is updated. It will also allow you to look at all the rules for all armies, meaning you'll never be caught off guard on the table. It would also allow you to "window shop" for new armies.
They still wanna make money, so make it a subscription. Something like $.50-$2/month. Even at $3/ month, that's only $36/ year, way less than I currently spend on rules.
Keep the campaign books rolling, even have codexes available for fluff and physical copies. But if they are going to modify the game >4 a year, there needs to be a better option.

I'm pretty sure we're talking about option 3. Makes logical sense from a business standpoint. I can't see them giving up that revenue, can you?
I'm also anticipating an announcement from GW soon(ish) that the indexes are now basically invalidated after Y'narri and inquisition are updated to codex format. This grey area that they've been treading with codex armies being allowed to take stuff from old books because they don't want to piss anyone off is messy. We have ENOUGH books to try and keep track of. (it's almost impossible for me as a TO for example to keep up with what is legal, what is not, all the FAQ's etc.)

I like the idea of an APP, and I do think that even at the 3$ a month for $36/year wouldn't be bad but I can't see them moving away from books since they make so much off the codex, I think there are pretty good margins on books, tho it would be a great augment for them to run side by side, I mean most people have battle-scribe and still have the Codex.
I guess since its so tied to revenue, they aren't likely to round out the codex for everyone and then sit for 6 months and focus on Chapter Approved and balance.
I think taking away the index options isn't a bad idea either, usually people are only fishing in them for the best stuff as it is, I know my Clubs list has an index option only because why take a 110 pt KFF when you can take a 75pt KFF. I will miss the pain boy, big mek and warboss on bike tho. I really do hope they get some of those options back, but i can shift points in my list if i really want a KFF going forward without an index.

Just pull them from a spot that you KNOW there's Rough Riders (by a different name).

They are actually better than Rough Riders, but have that annoying Krieg faction...

Aww, cmon man; everyone know that Krieg are THE coolest guard faction of all time; ever. They literally bury their enemies in mountains of their own men; sealing them behind walls of dead Krieg flesh, rofl.

I would, given all the time in the world, love to convert up an awesome Krieg army (or given all the money in the world get it from FW).
