www.frontlinegaming.org/2019/02/23/gw-grognard-ok-time-for-the-indexes-to-die/Interesting opinion from Grognard, whose thoughts are usually rather accurate. To avoid the click-bait of the article, he is only saying that the Indexes should be removed from Matched Play and continue to be allowed in Open/Narrative play. Even through I stand to lose several options across my armies, I actually support this. Everyone has an up-to-date codex, FAQs and rules updates are regular, accurate and address issues, and (most) index wargear options are things that maybe don't need to exist anyways. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a beta rule to remove indexes from Matched Play in the March Big FAQ 3.0

Not everyone has one yet. But not to long until everyone has one.
That said if indexes are taken out the all forge world would be out as they are indexes. Unless they are exempted.
Not saying that's a bad or good things it's just I use some fw personally.

I'd hate to see a lot of great and iconic units and wargear choices go away permanently, just because GW never bothered to make a plastic kit - Rough Riders and Chaos Lords on daemonic steeds in particular would sting.
That said... it's probably only a matter of time. Sigh.

That said if indexes are taken out the all forge world would be out as they are indexes. Unless they are exempted. Because the vast majority of units represented in the Imperial Armour Indexes are still in production, they won't do this unless there are suitable replacements.

Realistically, each index should have been invalidated for tournaments as it's codex came out. I have no issue with using them for friendly games so long as both/all parties agree, but each should have died a (quiet) noble death upon codex release.

So just Sisters and Ynarri are still on index? Correct, through Sisters have their Beta Codex and it's currently rumored that Ynarri will get their update via White Dwarf or downloadable PDF

So just Sisters and Ynarri are still on index? sisters are in the update in Chapter Approved Beta Codex... Ynarri, legion of the damned and inquisitors are the only index left (as assassins got the white dwarf treatment)

fair enough, what is left that is a big index vs codex abuser? I can't think of too much that comes to mind with my knowledge of Orks, T'au and Eldar. There are a couple pieces of war gear like who can take a shoota, or banshee mask and a hand full of units like big mek with KFF and biker warboss/painboy/big mek that see play.
Is there an outstanding unit or units that are showing up and unbalancing things? or is it mostly so people don't have to worry as much about having to know multiple sources of info and rules?

I'm not sure any of the options in the index vs. codex are game breaking. Which is actually why I am consistently surprised why these options aren't just put in the codex to begin with. It's not like people haven't converted warbosses on bikes for years out of existing bikes and nobs, and it's not like a big mek with KFF hasn't been an ork staple forever
just put it in the damn codex... what's the issue?
why can't a priest have a jump pack for blood angels... they've had them for years... there's plenty of model choice to support it.. it makes them actually function in their role and keep up with the army... doesn't make a bit of sense, ESPECIALLY when GW says the index options are legit still.

All the herald options for daemons other than herald on foot are index items is really it for daemons, and I have models for all the former variants. Not that the index options are great anyways.

Ya for now I don't really care if index goes away. Nothing game breaking is coming out of it. Even if the FW index there are only a handful of solid options that really see the table.
