May is fast approaching so better get these details up! SIGN UP HERE: kingstonnexus.ca/events/40k-great-crusade-2024/Saturday May 11th at Kingston Gaming NexusDice roll at 9:00 AM, doors open at 8:30 AM. 3 games for the day. (plus there is our traditional boss fight which happens at the end!) Entry fee: $20 Each round is two hours (boss fight is much shorter of course!) Tournament Rules1,250 point tournament. Please bring your mission cards as they will be required for secondaries as per normal. This is a narrative tournament, so we're trying to err on the side of friendly lists. I'm not going to list a big old ban list as I think 10th has given us a pretty balanced ruleset so we're going to leave it in your capable hands this year as to what you want to bring. You MUST include as your warlord a named SPECIAL CHARACTER from your relevant army book. It is their great crusade! So it’s about this character’s personal retinue of awesome they are bringing along for their personal crusade. (ie: if you play daemons you can bring Rotigus as your warlord for example, but not a stock GUO in that role) If your codex is GSC which has no named special characters, the patriarch may be used (only ONE per army however – it’s still their great crusade!).

Oh boy! During the boss fight, of course it's just a 1v1 with no retinue. As an idea, what if Leaders still benefited from the abilities on their datasheet which require them to be leading a unit? ie Kharn the Betrayer would still benefit from the ability to reroll 1s to hit and to wound. Otherwise, I feel like giant monsters and Lone Operatives will have a big advantage as they still benefit from all of their abilities. If your codex is GSC which has no named special characters, the patriarch may be used (only ONE per army however – it’s still their great crusade!). Chaos Knights also don't have a special character

Will lists be vetted so someone doesn't keep the the spirit of "friendly" and bring a primarch?

Is there a painting requirement? Seems perfect to get my partner into 40k with basically just over "half an army"!

For the boss fight what if a character has attached models with them on their data sheet such as Calgar with his honour guard? I assume they won’t be used but just wanted to confirm.

- if someone brings a primarch, well they will likely win the boss fight but lose every game due to not having enough units on the board to get stuff done. Also people will probably just think they're being a jerk for doing so. Also it gains them absolutely nothing because prizes are draws and everyone will likely just say that your wins are only because you tried to cheese out a narrative tournament. So you know, do what you want, you're all mostly adults - yes, Chaos knights do not have a special character. So I guess the closest thing is an Abominant? So if you want to spend 440 points on one of those... go for it lol... this tourney was not really made for knights. See primarch points above. But if you notice... I'm not going to stop you. - I like the idea of if your character has an ability "while they are leading a unit" that it applies for the boss fight regardless if buddies come along. Good idea Kevin! - Any unit that is required to have a retinue as part of the model (ie: Gemini for Celestine) are part of the datasheet so can be brought. If such a retinue is optional (unsure if Calgar's is) then they would not come along for the boss fight. - There's ZERO painting requirement. You can be a lovely shade of grey plastic and it's perfectly fine - I'm not vetting lists. If you notice I didn't even put restrictions on what is allowed. This is literally an experiment that might backfire, but I'm going to trust that everyone wants to have a narrative experience if they're coming to this one. So I'm going with that if you're attending THIS tournament you are bringing a narrative list in the spirit of the event. If someone decides to be "that guy" I'm not going to stop you. You might not be welcome back though if you decide to just stomp all over everyone's fun time by abusing the system. Your choice. Also full disclosure, there will be custom missions on this one. And yes, some custom secondaries that will have to be used from time to time. Bring cheese at your peril lol...

And for once (if I can make it) I'm not going to be proxying a special character since I have Szeras). Now to think on a narrative list that won't result in me just handing the game to my opponents.

Calgar honour guard used to be optional now they’re built into the datasheet

Will lists be vetted so someone doesn't keep the the spirit of "friendly" and bring a primarch? I'd much rather fight a primarch than the Avatar of Khaine, Shalaxi, or Skarbrand to name a few. C'Tan and Mozrog are pretty intimidating, as well. Magnus is quite strong, Angron less so without the ability to resurrect, and the other three are pretty weak in one-on-one fights. Mortarion only has 5 Attacks!

For the custom missions and secondaries - is this something where the warlord is going to want to lead from the front? I haven't been to this tournament before.

The avatar is one of the things where I thought "naw, I should keep a ban list" I'm not going to lie. He's way stronger than a primarch. Just like C'tan, he's criminally under costed for way too much power.
There will be missions that absolutely are going to make your warlord key to do things. Might not always be something like "lead from the front" (unfairly punishes armies with the support warlord and just incentivizes bringing something stupid powerful).

Again maybe a silly question but are legends allowed here if it keeps in the spirit of fun and fluffy or do we want to avoid that can of worms as they were never intented for tournament play....
Shakes fist at GW for ufthak Blackhawk only being legends.
