See, the only problem with that, is it's a separate datasheet with the same name, and in the past any time that happens, the newest one replaces the old, like with Mephiston and Ragnar, for example.

Loving the weight of the outriders. That’s a solid miniature. These new models are pretty sweet.

Does the new datasheet give you the old lieutenant options too... that would be the sign it was a replacement datasheet.

like right now they are kind of in a weird limbo. as there is a new primaris lieutenant and a new primaris captain who both have to come with spesific wargear. but there is the old ones who also the same day got new points updates.
like, are they going to be rolled into one selection with the new wargear added, we can assume they are not suppose to take over the data sheet name since why would that give the old one points values.
they may faq it or they may just leave it to the codex, who knows lol

Which is why I'm asking. There's other random things that don't make any sense in the points, but the datasheets in particular don't have an answer yet. Obviously I'm fine either way - the new Lieutenant is pretty much superior in all ways to the old, as far as wargear goes. the captain is 50/50 depending.
I'm simply curious, because it's a glaring oversight. I also posed the same question to the 40k Community Site and haven't got an answer either.

I was chewing on the same issue with the Indomitus Primaris Lieutenant. I note that he has a different stat line - he is BS 2+ instead of 3+ for the older one. I think we should treat them as separate datasheets/HQ slots until we get some clarity. I will also not port over things like a Company of Heroes to the Indomitus one until we see something.
While I am still excited about 9th and it’s a very positive step forward, I think the release was hastily planned and executed. I imagine that the Codex will blend them into one. Till then, confusion reigns!

The "leak" video I posted above appears to indicate they will likely get rolled together into the same data sheet in some way.

I'm sure if it wasn't for COVID this probably would have released end of June and not had as many problems with omissions/errors/etc. By and large this was put together at home by the team, so honestly, I actually expected a lot more failures that would have been caught if everything was done at HQ.

Got some more hints about Necron Command protocols due to a trait units can get in the Crusade games: Considering that six protocols are named, this is looking more and more like an equivalent to the Admech Canticles.

I figure that this is as good a place as any to ask, but I had a question.
Assuming that sometime down the line I decide that I do want to get more 40K stuff, what do I need, other than models/codex? Is the core book and the new chapter approved all that's needed at the moment? This won't happen anytime soon, as I had an expense come up, but I'm still curious for future reference.

Realistically if you are just dipping your toes into the water and are looking for minim capital investment, you can get away with 1. Models of your chosen faction 2. Battle scribe (this has all the rules for the codex and points of Chapter approved rolling into one) 3. The free 26 page "core rule" PDF (this gives you all the basic rules or how to play) This would be the absolute cheapest way into 40k at this time. I would recommend if you are having fun playing 40k then core rule book would be the next step as it has the official missions and terrain rules, then your codex which would give you a hard copy of all your factions rules outside of battle scribe but make sure you get the most up to date one.(9th codexs being released starting in Oct). also IF the GW 40k app starts to look like a good deal (Currently this is a pretty big IF) you could 'upgrade' out of battle scribe.
