well you could... but then you cannot use crossfire ever...lol... It's not GW if they don't take an existing rule for an army and make it worse after all. also they used "massive firepower" and "heavy weapon team" in the same sentence... I'm not sure they actually play this game

I feel like by the time you get 500 pts of guard you probably have all the good guard units that are currently in the codex. It feels like maybe you have some for utility picks or for shenanigans like a baneblade.

I can see most people just grabbing stuff like basalisks etc for Blood Brothers. Get some heavy indirect/anti-tank firepower while the genestealer cult handles anti-infantry.

Well the big change here is it's a separate detachment, so you cannot take a cult leman russ anymore in a GSC detachment. Unsure if I'd want to be spending the CP to take some subpar units to throw in a couple tanks. Guard tanks aren't exactly great right now, so I'm not sure how much it would gain the army to be worth the minimum 2 CP to even bring a couple of them. Plus if you go over 500 points of guard you lose crossfire for your army.
Don't see how that's worth it at all... but maybe the new guard codex will be awesome and there'll be some benefit for bringing brood brothers other than a leadership buff?
It's a cool idea to have a mixed force thematically, but I'm really unsure if it's a GOOD idea. Guess we'll know more soon!

Finally! boneswords getting +1 strength (given they're the nid version of a power sword) is GREAT news. Let's hope that translates to the warriors when the tyranid book arrives.
The acolyte weapons must change points I'd think... the cutters seem like the new go to (thanks for making me arm everything with saws last time GW) with flat three damage and the same strength and AP as the other weapons. Guessing that the drill still does the exploding mortals and maybe the cutters are -1 to hit or something?
Acolytes rending claws improved to AP-2 is also quite nice.
So... did metamorphs lose the claw option? if so that is no bueno... because I've armed alot of them with claws and whips and I see NEITHER weapon option... sigh....

The comments are saying the knife/claw option are combined into one power sword like profile that has an extra attack built in. Basically think of it as a power chain sword I guess?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpZv8xw7S4oAnd Auspex now has ahold of a leak with the Goliath and some characters. Rockgrinder lookin' damn fine with that Clearance Incinerator from my perspective. 15" 2D6 S6 AP-1 D1? It's everything I wanted from the Hellhounds I wanted to add in my brood brothers detachment =) Very nice move blockin' =) =) =) 3+ save will go a long way too. I can live with T6/T7 3+ if the points are similar to a DE Raider. Jackal Alphus and Abominant we only have stat lines, without special rules it's hard to judge. I'm sure we won't have to await much longer for a full leak

3+ save was sorely needed... it's a heavy mining vehicle ffs, why did it only have a 4+? I like the extra 3" range and +1 strength on the clearance incinerator as well. If the rockgrinder stays the same points it will be actually useful at that profile. Good thing cuz I own three of them!
So keeping the attacks at 3 is NOT good news for the abominant. It's not like he ever hits a table currently... he needs a LOT to be fieldable. I would have thought he'd be 5 attacks to be honest. Maybe he'll get a sweep attack or something. But he needs WAY more to be even worth his current 110 points.

www.warhammer-community.com/2022/01/06/the-genestealer-cults-primus-is-back-and-hes-tougher-deadlier-and-more-seditious-than-ever/Primus preview is quite interesting. He's still about as durable as a paper bag, the paper just isn't wet now, but his buffing ability having a once-per-game use on a non-CORE unit will be powerful. The article seems to imply that Purestrains and Abberants will NOT get the CORE keyword by my reading of it? I don't wanna pile on the doom-train too much before we even have the codex in hand, but at least it seems to be somewhat accounted for even if it causes more confusing rules? It seems to me like they took all the 1CP strats for making a "super magus" or "super primus" and just rolled them directly into the profiles, so I'd expect the Clamvus might get that bonus as well

leaks I've seen indicate purestrains and aberrants are not core, and the abominant is still abysmally bad unfortunately.
Primus is still laughably bad. It's great that his bonesword got better (S+1 flat 2 damage), but he's a T4 character with a 5+ save and no invul. The picture of him facing off against the new custodes character is pretty funny. That's a dead primus for sure!
9" lieutenant buff is fine. It being once per game for a non-core unit is again... fine.
having a core unit have a 1CP heroic when the Primus is charged is also fine... but doesn't save him from the inevitable pasting
EDIT: sigh... it's command phase... so cannot use any of his buffs when he comes in from cult ambush/reserve. So his buffs essentially got worse because he and the unit he wants to buff also have to live for a turn to benefit.

Oh look custodes can get transhuman.... Transhuman kinda loses value the tougher things are. IIRC Custodes are all like T5 or T6 base so there's a lot less value it that strat than you realize. Plus 2CP on units that are 4+ models is expensive for a single phase active defense. I'm not surprised they got it, I'm more surprised the model count restriction was lowered to 3, that's good rules balance in action.
