Just throwing up a poll here to see what kind of tourney everyone would like.
Trying to make something that's beginner friendly as well as fun for all participants.
Feel free to pick whichever option you'd like!
Essentially we're looking at either 1k four games, or 3 games at 2k
Alternatively if you'd rather a tag team we can either do set teams (much harder for new players or those who don't necessarily have someone to sign up with), random teams (makes it fair as no one can stack a team but you're stuck with your teammate all day) or rotating teams (let chaos reign! - super crazy as your team-mate changes each round!)
Let me know what you'd prefer - you have two votes to pick your top two options.

Since it's beginner friendly again, is it safe to assume that there won't be a painting requirement?
I voted for 2000 points, and for 1000 points tag team with set teams.
After poking around in the warscroll builder site, I found that I can reach 2000 after all. Just need to build ten more brutes, and I already have the boxes on my shelf. Ideally, I'll build them quickly, but then get to building another force. If I can somehow get that second force built in time, it'll debut at the tournament, but may not be painted very much.

I put in my favs but I'll probably be there regardless!
I wonder if there's something that can be done to make it easier for lone players to find partners without completely jettisoning set teams. I've played team games with people I've only just met and that can be a great way to make friends in the community.

There's no painting requirement for this tournament at all.
Teams is a difficult thing to set up properly as you have to have the numbers to make it a reality, and we don't have as many people currently playing AOS as 40k. Even 40k took a while to have team tournaments viable.
If there was a barrier in models to a couple new players playing (who literally do not have the ability to form a 2k army but could scrape together 1k each - ie: not an existing player) rather than have them not be able to attend at all, I'd be willing to consider them playing as a team to make 2k between them. I would only consider this for brand new players who could otherwise not play at all. Not interjecting power combos for some players within a regular tourney. That's a recipe for disaster.
I want to ensure there are no barriers to building up the AOS community, now that things are finally opening up again.

What an interesting idea I'll ask them today!

I changed my vote to 1000 point 4 games as it’s a good way to get to know people in the community and get a few more games in. I also wouldn’t mind doing a somewhat friendlier version of the 40K club champs. Do it fully painted and 2k points but maybe for like 6 months from now.

What an interesting idea I'll ask them today! The idea is I want everyone to get to play regardless of model count, so new players can be there. Whatever I can construct to make that a reality is definitely worth considering And Danny, I'd love to be able to have the community built up enough to do a club champs for AOS as well.... I think we can get there (and this edition of the game seems the best suited to make that a reality) but likely not this year. Once we have 20 regular players at a tourney that can actually field a fully painted list, I'm completely willing to do it, and will get it all set up don't worry!

Okay so my fellows are going to scrounge together 1k each with the intent to play in the 2k event (since that is what looks like the poll is tilting towards anyway) if that works. I have two follow up questions for you Shannon:
1) For their lists, rather than force them to conform to the 1k two battleline requirement I figured it would make sense to let them meet a 2k requirement of 3 battleline between them just to take the edge off having to play full 2k lists with synergies and such. Maybe same logic for points, 2k cap between in case one spills over 1k a bit. Basically just thinking of it as a 2k list with two players and a roughly even split across their allegiance traits. Let me know and I'll help them meet whatever construction requirements you think make sense.
2) There MAY be a third very very new player who wants to attend and won't be able to brink 2k, if it's an odd number would it be all right for me to gap-fill and be their 1k partner even though I certainly have enough stuff to field a full list? This is getting into iffier territory and nominally outside the bounds of your original suggestion so I'll let you decide

hmmm I'm not sure... let me think on that.
for #1 I'd say it's 3 battleline total.

As much as I'd like to go full 2k, if we've got a handful of folks who are interested in getting involved with AoS and can bring together 1k, I think it makes the most sense to go with that.
I'm good with whatever the final decision is, but in the interest of growing the community as has been said, maybe making it as easy as possible to participate is the way to go

What that guy said. ^^^^
I voted for 2k and 1k singles, but I'd rather 1k if it meant a bunch more people got to play. Get that new blood excited to keep building.

seems like some people might solve this problem for us by defaulting to 1k (I love not having to make decisions)

appears that the community is kind of split down the middle at this point as to what they want... you all certainly don't make these things easy for me lol
